NatPo redeems itself and responds to far-left radical rantings of Ontario Liberals

Yesterday I lamented at the fact that the National Post blithely, and without even the slightest retort by way of commentary or editorial opposition, reported on what I think was quite possibly the insane rantings of a Marxist Ontario Liberal Finance Minister, Michael Bryant, as he came out of the economic closet.  His imageassertion as I saw it was that the government should start “investing” in all manner of erstwhile private businesses.  To get the state into business ownership of the means of production.  You know, exactly, precisely, like Marx and Lenin suggested.

Well today they have redeemed themselves by publishing a front-page comment article by the highly esteemed business author Peter Foster, accurately headlined “Ontario Inc. a losing entity” with the spot-on sub-head “Plan for ‘reverse Reaganism’ preposterous”, with this opener:

Just when you hoped those economic “green shoots” might be bursting forth, here comes Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Michael Bryant, with a threat to put the ever-ready shovel of government “assistance” through the roots of healthy recovery. In a positively bizarre speech to the Canadian Club of Toronto on Monday, Mr. Bryant announced a “new” government policy that he dubbed “reverse Reaganism.”

After laying out several examples of the nutbar remarks made by the neo-Liberal (read: socialist), Foster informs us “It got weirder.”  He suggests as I did that there is a question as to Bryant’s sanity:  “Has Mr. Bryant, like Don Quixote, slipped the melancholy bounds of sanity?”  (For those of you keeping track at home, the correct answer is “yes”.)

I’d lumped Liberal Premier Dalton McGuinty in with the socialist ramblings of his Finance Minister yesterday, and today Foster says:

There was some suggestion that Mr. Bryant may have gone off the policy reservation yesterday when Premier Dalton McGuinty sought to clarify his minister’s ramblings. Mr. McGuinty said that “Free markets aren’t dead, they just have a new partner and that’s the government.”

That didn’t sound very clarifying.

No.  What it sounds like is fascist

Foster didn’t go that far.  He should have.  But it’s a good retort and I’m glad the NatPo saw fit to respond to the radical left-wing rantings of Ontario Liberals on their front page, where exposures of radical left-wing rantings in our country belong.  They also included a good hard news article on page A-8 headlined “McGuinty ‘leery’ of picking firms to support.”

They (and parent Canwest) are the only news organization that I can find who have retorted the socialist ramblings of Liberals Michael Bryant and Dalton McGuinty.  So I imagine the rest are perfectly fine with it.
