I wrote it up yesterday and in daring to do so, I no doubt caused many a liberal eyes a-rolling, and may well be added to the Obama admin’s “Extremist Right-Winger” lexicon. In case you don’t know, it’s improper in this country to speak of Liberals or liberals generally, in a negative tone. It ain’t liberal. It’s not a “Canadian Value”. And if we have to in order to avoid charges of insanity, we are to remove any “Liberal” label. So Imagine my surprise when both the liberal-left Toronto Star mentioned she was a Liberal, and the liberal-left’s state-owned CBC division mentioned she was a Liberal in their brief, sheepish, on-air allusion to the story this morning on Newsworld.
Today Liberal MP Ruby Dhalla quit her post and was a no-show at caucus and in the House. Liberals are now no doubt 
instructing their media suckups to avert their eyes, which the media will dutifully do, of course. For example, at this time, hours after the fact, the state-owned CBC.ca is all over the Mulroney/Schreiber story, which it features as though it’s the story of the century, but which in reality utterly nobody in Canada cares one whit about; but barely lists the Liberal Ruby Dhalla story as an afterthought.
“This morning I called the leader to personally tender my resignation as Multiculturalism & Youth Critic in order to focus my attention on clearing my name. I will work with the appropriate officials to ensure the facts of the matter are clarified and corrected regarding my family’s experience with live-in caregivers and will work vigorously to defend my reputation,” Dhalla said in a statement. It was the shortest statement the motor-mouth Dhalla has ever presented to Canadians.
Today, supportive Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff issued a statement saying he had “…accepted Ruby Dhalla’s resignation as Youth & Multiculturalism Critic. Ms. Dhalla will continue to serve as the Liberal Member of Parliament for Brampton-Springdale. I look forward to a determination of the facts regarding her family’s experience with live-in caregivers.”
That’s right. Keep her on board, Mr. Honesty ‘n Principle. Just demand the resignation of Conservatives over far lesser, absurdly stupid allegations. Thattaboy.
