Not feeling the pride.
Tried — hard — but failed, here at PTBC, for twenty-five years.
I thought with a more conservative-oriented political climate, a Canada truly strong and free might emerge (re-emerge?) and show an obvious path upward in the world.
The opposite has happened. Canada has declined and continues to decline in myriad ways. This is just a sad objective truth.
Half the problem here is that so many in Canada do not see that objective truth. This is by design. Progressive-left-oriented design. The success of state-funded media and education has played-out very, very well for the left. Thus many Canadians have indeed been played. These are the Canadians who still think we’re special because we have “free” healthcare, even though it is the opposite of free — it is just about the most expensive in the world — and even though just about every country in the developed world has universal healthcare; and these are the Canadians who still, despite obvious evidence, think our healthcare is the best in the world, even though it is literally the worst. I like to think these are the Canadians who never happened upon this site, ProudToBeCanadian.ca, or else they would indeed see the objective truth. But no, off to the state-owned CBC and state-funded CTV and Globe and Mail and Star they have gone and continue to go.
That drive for pride through a more conservative-oriented — a more pro-Canadian-oriented government —one which embraces Canada and its history, our ownership of this land, freedom, free enterprise, free markets, private enterprise; which embraces what were our glorious nation-building and family-building Judeo-Christian values and heritage, and our once-great individual, pioneering spirit — has failed. Thus I have failed.
So… perhaps another time, and another government —one that is determined NOT to bring Canada, democracy, freedom and free enterprise and private enterprise down, but rather the opposite.
- One that doesn’t seek government domination over literally every facet of our private lives and create what is now a totalitarian, Big Government dominion over us: from private charity, our lifestyles, our thoughts and feelings, our entertainment, our purchasing choices, our home ownership, right through to our births and deaths. It’s now all under the rubric of Big Government: its funding decisions, its taxes, its rules, its regulations, its state-sponsored education-driven and related media-driven psyops (for lack of a more apt description), and more.
- One that seeks not to quash individual success in innovation, entrepreneurship, nor personal financial success, but rather gets out of the way and lets it all thrive. Perhaps even celebrates it as if it weren’t evil!
- One that inspires legitimate national pride, without even telling us as a government about what or when we should feel pride, what our culture is or should be, nor how we should or should not feel — about anything from the climate to the American President; nor acknowledging whose land this is —besides being ours.
- And one which abhors a socialist-state-like state-funded “news” media and other media apparatus and education system telling us how to “properly” think, what to “properly” think, or how to “properly” vote.
Meantime, thanks for the past 25 years! I thank all the site visitors over the years — many millions of visits! Thanks to everyone who bought a PTBC pin or other paraphernalia (which we stopped selling when we realized they were made in communist China)!
And of course thanks to all the columnists — famous and not — some paid, but some not requiring a cent, just to help, because they shared the vision — whose work has been featured right here.
Let’s hope for a future.
