“We in the media often get very excited about the prospect of the NDP replacing the Liberals as the Official Opposition,…”

Hi Joel:

[Columnist John] Ivison states in the 5th paragraph of this article that he and his media buddies really get excited about the NDP becoming the official opposition!  I wonder does the fantasy stop there, or does it really get John and his NP buddies fired up fantasizing about Taliban Jack forming a majority government?

Hey Ward,

But he follows that with ”…to see the party come in like the cow’s tail with their usual 15%.”

So you could take that two ways.  I’ve always said the you’ve got to be kidding party exists only because the media props them up, but I never considered the notion that they were only doing it for their own selfish and calculated amusement —sort of like little boys frying bugs in the driveway with a magnifying glass on a sunny day, and when mom looks down at them disdainfully, the boys reply that they are really just practicing some solid “earth science”, so she should be glad and get over it.

The phrase “we in the media” does stick with me though, written as if they are a cabal of like-minded or groupthink or goose-stepping clowns.  It’s not very flattering …although it’s no doubt a spot-on description of that cabal of like-minded group-think goose-stepping (and clearly liberal-leftist useful idiot) clowns, thus confirming our suspicions in that regard.

But all in all it makes it seem as though the media is so puerile or jejune that they really just want something fun to happen — journalists with their own version of my analogical magnifying glass — simply so they can amuse themselves, rather than hope for something that’s actually good for the country.

They might want to grow up and realize the inherent, damaging error of their ways.

Thanks Ward,
Joel
