No, Manitoba is not a Soviet state. Neither is BC. (The USSR never paid as well)

It’s a story about salaries being paid to executives working at various you’ve got to be kidding party-led province of Manitoba government corporations.  But considering the list of those corporations (wink!) in this Canadian Taxpayers Federation video, you’d be forgiven for thinking you were watching a report about Soviet Russia.  Note the CTF spokesman’s notion of allowing competition to help sort out whether these Soviet-style Manitoba politburo apparatchiks are worth their quarter-million-dollars salaries for their public service.  The very notion of introducing competition in this Soviet-style economy almost has to be cast as satirical, it seems, today.

Here’s another CTF video speaking to the million-dollar-per-year boss at the province of British Columbia’s 100% government-owned ferry monopoly, B.C. Ferries Corporation. This helps explain why it costs me and my wife over a HUNDRED BUCKS just to go to our capital city of Victoria to visit the enormous government office complex, which is by far the biggest and most elaborate building in Victoria —making the prestigious Empress Hotel look like a guest house (which, coincidentally, it probably is —for government guests).

And don’t forget about the Government Games —the Olympics.
