U.S. pulls Syrian Ambassador, suspicion rises about Syria’s role in assassination

I’ve alluded to Syria’s control of Lebanon before (since old liberal mainstream media refuses to consider that Syria could possibly be acting in contravention of the John Kerry Global Test… well you know the rest).

But now there are implications that because the former prime minister of Lebanon (who resigned under pressure recently) was making noise about Syria getting their troops out of his country of Lebanon (which was being controlled by Syria), he was assassinated by the Syrian Baathist regime.  (Yup, that Baathist regime).

By the way, a U.N. Security Council resolution has called for Syria to leave Lebanon.  Not that U.N. Security Council resolutions mean diddly.

Lebanon to Bury Hariri as Pressure on Syria Builds

BEIRUT (Reuters) – International pressure mounted on Syria to ease its grip over Lebanon as stunned Lebanese prepared to bury slain former Prime Minister Rafik al-Hariri on Wednesday.

The Sunni Muslim billionaire’s death in a car bomb attack on Monday has revived memories of a 1975-90 civil war and spotlighted Lebanon’s troubled ties with its powerful neighbor.

The United States on Tuesday recalled its ambassador to Syria for urgent consultations to show its anger at Syrian dominance of its tiny neighbor.

U.S. officials said they are considering imposing new sanctions on Syria because of its refusal to withdraw its 14,000 troops from Lebanon and the administration’s belief that Syria lets Palestinian militants and Iraqi insurgents operate on its soil.

But the White House said it was too early to tell who assassinated Hariri.

The U.N. Security Council asked Secretary-General Kofi Annan to urgently look into the killing, a measure the United States hopes will lead to further action by the world body.

Oh they’ve asked Kofi Annan to look into it.  Well I’m sure that’ll solve the problem.
