Royal Canadian Mounted Police to Escort Gays as “Honour Guard” at U.S. GLBT Award Ceremony

TORONTO, April 20, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) — Canada is sending an honorary RCMP police escort to accompany homosexual activists Kevin Bourassa and Joe Varnell, who will be honoured at a Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered (GLBT) awards ceremony in Philadelphia May 1, for being the first same-sex pair married legally in North America.

Varnell and Bourassa gained notoriety for successfully challenging Ontario’s prohibition against same-sex “marriage,” thereafter becoming the first legally married same-sex couple on January 14, 2001. The awards ceremony marks the 40th anniversary since the first gay pride parade celebrated the deviant lifestyle in the streets of Philadelphia in 1965.

A Canada News Wire press release said, “Two RCMP officers will accompany them to symbolize Canada’s freedoms and tourism opportunities.” A LifeSiteNews.com call into the RCMP National Headquarters revealed there was no knowledge of the event; several calls were made to the media spokesman at the Toronto regional RCMP office with no success, the voice mailbox indicating it was full to capacity and unable to take a message.

A call into the Canadian federal justice department also revealed there was no knowledge of the event, and could not confirm that the RCMP would or would not be attending.
