Haters of Canada’s foundations and heritage and traditions rule in Ontario

Good morning Canada!

Just saw Nativity Story last night.  It isn’t banned yet… and yet it’s all about that Christian fella!  Go see it!  It’s beautiful!  I think it will be a Christmas staple on TV every year—except of course on the state-run CBC division of the liberal-left, where it will of course be banned (and what with Canada’s state-regulator of what Canadians are allowed to watch on TV, the CRTC, maybe it will be banned in Canada altogether because approving of it would be, you know, condoning it!).

On the CBC, in its place, I imagine they’ll show more videos of young boys getting their testicles waxed, like they did last year (the video called “Ball Waxer” is still available at the state-owned and state-run CBC.ca, at taxpayer expense!), and other equally exemplary videos depicting what liberals call “Canadian values”.

image Today in our liberal-left politically-correct total moonbat department, we present ONTARIO liberals who were appointed to the judicial branch of the liberal-left (is there ONE conservative on a Canadian court anymore?) to rule over the wishes of sensible Canadians no matter what they think!  It must be Thursday!

Yes that’s right.  The secular-progressives (hi Liberals!) who appointed judges to judgeships in Ontario are celebrating the season today—no silly not “Christmas”, per se, but rather something they call “Liberal-fest”!  Some of them call this season the “Happy secular progressive festivus of color and light and Godless nondescript seasonal values” season.  Season’s greetings!

Judge bans ‘Christian symbol’ from Toronto courthouse

By BRODIE FENLON, TORONTO SUN

A Toronto judge has ordered the removal of a Christmas tree from the lobby of a provincial courthouse, sparking widespread anger among court staff.

Justice Marion Cohen ordered the decorated tree to be moved Monday from the lobby of the Ontario Court of Justice at 311 Jarvis St. to an out-of-the-way administrative corridor on grounds it is a Christian symbol that alienates people of other creeds and traditions.

Cohen refused comment and walked away from a Sun reporter when approached yesterday in a courthouse stairwell.

MANY UPSET PEOPLE

But in a letter to staff on Tuesday, she defended the order while acknowledging “that many people are upset with my decision.”

“I am aware the Christmas tree has been placed in the front lobby at Christmas time for many years,” Cohen wrote.

“I do not think it appropriate that when the clients of our court enter our courthouse, the first thing they see is a Christian symbol. The message to the many non-Christians, who attend our court and are confronted with this symbol, is that they are not part of this institution. It does not belong to them. They are different.”

The tree, a small artificial plant decorated in lights, blue bunting and ornaments, has been relegated to a side corridor near administrative offices and an intake counter.

“A lot of people are ticked off,” said one worker who didn’t want to be named.

“It’s been here for years,” said another, who was pleased the Sun was following the story.

While the staff was shy to go on the record, public visitors had more than a few strong words about the judge’s decision.

“I think it’s pretty stupid. A Christmas tree is a Canadian tradition,” said April St. Amour.

“Whether people are Christian or not, they should leave it. It’s a tradition.”

“It’s an insult, really,” added Holly St. Amour.

Denise Byng also dismissed the judge’s order as “stupid” and suggested a compromise: A “unity tree” decorated with ornaments representing other religions.

“People from other religions and countries celebrate Christmas. Everybody knows who Santa Claus is,” she said. “They have a huge Christmas tree at Nathan Phillips Square. Should we take that down because it might offend somebody? No.”

Brendan Crawley, spokesman for the ministry of the attorney general, said Cohen is a local administrative judge in charge of the administration of that particular courthouse.

NO POLICY

“There’s no overall court or ministry policy that addresses this situation. Each courthouse has a certain amount of latitude to make local decisions on matters pertaining to local administration,” he said.

The Christmas tree is no stranger to battles of political correctness.

While the Christmas tree still stands near City Hall, bureaucrats created an uproar in 2002 when they tried to rename it a “holiday tree”—a decision made public by the Sun’s Mike Strobel and quickly reversed by then-Mayor Mel Lastman.

Last year, a spokesman for the governor general created a one-day firestorm by announcing that Michaelle Jean would light a “holiday tree”—an error quickly corrected the following day.

Apparently 92 percent of the people who voted on the CKWX News 1130 online poll in liberal-left Vancouver said they did NOT agree with the absolutely stupid beyond belief or beyond any sane person’s level of tolerance ruling.

(Updated at 12:43 PM PT – the “No” side jumped from 92 to 94 percent after I posted this)

But who cares about “the people” when you’ve got liberal judges making all our decisions for us about what’s right and what’s wrong?!

I think the judge should be fired forthwith.  And as a parting gift, she should be given free tickets to go and watch Nativity Story; and a kick in her ass.

(Edited to correct the gender of the justice.  Not that gender matters one wit to these liberals.)
