Sun Life and your Canada sponsors another award for abortionist Henry Morgentaler

image Canada, apparently a nation devoid of anybody worth “awarding”, is nonetheless awarding abortion mill operator and pro-abortion crusader Henry Morgentaler in August.  Already, a state-sponsored university in Ontario honored him this year.  I can think of lots of actual, worthy Canadians to award, strangely enough, who have never snuffed the life out of a human being.

This time, a private Canadian company, Sun Life Financial, is the main backer of the group issuing the award, but the Liberal Party’s sponsorship image logo is all over this—as usual.

Morgentaler to receive Couchiching public policy leadership award

[Fri Jul 29,11:18 PM ET] TORONTO (CP) – Dr. Henry Morgentaler has been named the recipient of the 2005 Couchiching Award for Public Policy Leadership for his efforts on behalf of women’s rights and reproductive health issues.

The award will be presented to Morgentaler on Aug. 5 during the 74th annual Couchiching Conference in Orillia, Ont. The abortion rights activist will address delegates following the presentation.

The Couchiching Award is presented to a nationally recognized Canadian who has demonstrated leadership in a public policy field, often in the face of public opposition, and whose initiatives have had a positive impact on Canada or a community within Canada.

“Through the direct and measurable impact that Dr. Morgentaler has had on public policy, he exemplifies the high level of leadership required of award recipients,” said a news release from the Couchiching Institute on Public Affairs.

The annual award, sponsored by Sun Life Financial, was first presented in 2003 to former federal finance minister Michael Wilson. Last year’s winner was urban affairs author Jane Jacobs.

Word on the street is that the head of the Canadian National Prostitutes and Women’s Rights Association is next year’s winner; followed by pot-smoking (and women’s rights!) promoter Marc Emery, for his work on improving life for Canada’s drug addicts and stoner kids; and then Svend Robinson the year after, for helping the traditional, normal Canadian Family unit fall apart and avoid the possibility of abortion altogether.

Go team!

From the Couchiching web site, we can easily spot the layers of Liberal Government involvement through not one, not two, but three different state-owned, state-run corporations or agencies, as well as support from several Liberal-friendly firms (many of the usual suspects like the ultra left-wing Toronto Star)—it’s a veritable potpourri of state-sponsored liberal-leftism at work.  I added the highlighting and the Liberals Party sponsorship image logo to help you out:

Couchiching is grateful for the support of Transport Canada, image Bell Canada Enterprises, the Jackman Foundation, Probyn Eastman Ltd., image Bombardier International, the Frank Lucas Foundation, Glaxosmithkline Canada, Citizenship and Immigration Canada, RBC Financial Group, the image Bell Canada Corporate Philanthropy Program, Via Rail Canada, The Toronto Star, the CIBC and the Bank of Montreal.

And then on their page listing “Current and Past Sponsors”, in the Currect (2004) Sponsors section, still more Liberal Canadian government involvement and sponsorship.  They list these crown corporations or agencies in addition to those above:

  • Department of Foreign Affairs Canada

  • Department of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness

  • Canada Lands Company Limited

John Ralston Saul, the husband of the Governor-General of Canada, who was herself culled from the state-run CBC division of the Liberal Party, sits on the Couchiching “Special Advisory Council”.

In their Past Sponsors section, they list these other Liberal Canadian government crown corporations and agencies and several provincial ones as well:

  • Canada Post Corporation

  • Canadian Broadcasting Corporation

  • Department of National Defence

  • Export Development Corporation (EDC)

  • Government of Ontario, Industry and Trade

  • Government of Ontario, Intergovernmental Affairs

  • Health Canada

  • Industry Canada/Industrie Canada

  • Industry Canada (SchoolNet)

  • National Defence College

  • Ontario Hydro International Inc.

  • Ontario Ministry of Enterprise, Opportunity + Innovation

  • TVOntario

  • University of British Columbia Department of Continuing Education

  • Vancouver/Richmond Health Board
