Stockwell Day is right, Old Media is wrong (again)

The old, tired, liberal mainstream media is all over one of their favorite targets, the Conservative Party’s Stockwell Day— again.  This time it’s over an email he sent to his supporters.

It’s hard to know if it’s because Day is right on in bringing the subject up for discussion; or if it’s because apparently Day is days ahead on this news story that the biased left-wing media has pusillanimously avoided to protect one of their own (Yasser Arafat)—that it is on his case again

Conservative Party officials scrambled yesterday to explain an e-mail from Stockwell Day after he referred to an article on Yasser Arafat’s terrorist past and to rumours that he may have had AIDS as reasons for not sending condolences upon his death.

“Some of you have asked why I have not released a statement of condolence or sympathy,” Mr. Day, who is his party’s foreign affairs critic, said in an e-mail to Conservative MPs and constituency officials. “As you know, there are two sides to the Arafat story. You pick.”

Mr. Day then attached an article by conservative commentator David Frum, who goes on at length about Mr. Arafat’s support for terrorism and makes a reference to rumours that he may have had AIDS.

In the piece, Mr. Frum describes the symptoms of Mr. Arafat’s disease, compares them to AIDS and then questions the media’s “astonishing lack of curiosity” about the cause of his death. He also spends considerable time describing Mr. Arafat’s violent past and success in convincing the media to take a sympathetic view of the Palestinian side of the Mideast conflict.

By the way, I don’t have any terrorists on my Christmas card list this year.  I imagine the Day family is much the same.  And I would hope my government representatives don’t send “season’s greetings” to any terrorists either.
