Snippets and blurbing helps, so…

I’ve let our Columnist section ride on its own all this past week, without once referring to the brilliance emanating from therein.  It’s been hard because right-thinking Canadians and Americans make me so damn proud and happy and optimistic.

But I was trying to determine if not mentioning the columns and providing a little blurb (as I usually do) helped or hindered the popularity of the Columnist section.  Alas the numbers were down slightly in that section this past week.  So blurbing helps! (Liberals would demand a year-long Royal Commission of Inquiry at this juncture.)

I can’t go over the entire week, so here’s just today’s brilliance:

Today, Salim Mansur wrote with such eloquence a piece which coincidentally relates—if only in a very trivial way—to the blog entry I just made below.  It speaks to a rather gratuitously anti-American remark our new Governor-General made in her big inaugural speech which some of us noticed (and grimaced) and others noticed (and applauded).  Some wouldn’t have even noticed.  That’s half the point. Here’s a snippet:

[…] It’s possible Jean was unaware her remarks were gratuitous. It has become a habit of Liberal politicians, and the lib-left crowd in this country, to insult Americans as a self-congratulatory show of juvenile patriotism.

But then such nonsense, insulting to Canada’s most important ally and trading partner, delivered by the Governor General, the representative of the Crown, reflects how greatly advanced has become this disease of anti-Americanism in the ranks of our country’s rulers and their acolytes in the media. […]

This weekend we will get a double hit from Cinnamon Stillwell—one today and one tomorrow.  Today’s column is simply shocking.  It’s an eye-opener to be sure, but it’s a warning for Americans and Canadians alike.  Perhaps even more so liberal Canadians who are so frighteningly complacent about the terrorist threat generally.  Here’s a snippet but the whole thing is a must-read:

[…] The mainstream media wasn’t exactly forthcoming either.  Those seeking information immediately following the bombing were hard pressed to find it as there appeared to be a virtual media blackout.  None of the cable news networks, including Fox News, referred to the incident and the major wire services, newspapers and websites skipped it entirely.  Once again it was left up to bloggers like Mark Tapscott, Michelle Malkin, Wizbang, Gateway Pundit, The Jawa Report and Zombie (photojournalist for Little Green Footballs), as well as the “Freepers” of FreeRepublic.com, to pull together first hand accounts and links to the miniscule amount of news coverage available at the time. […]

I should note that “FreeRepublic.com” is an American version of our comparatively miniscule ProudToBeCanadian.ca Discussion Forum, only with a quarter-million-dollar-per-year budget, all from reader contributions (Yes!  That’s true! A quarter mill!).  My point though is really to point out the importance and potential of our little dot on the internet map, here.  **cough**Participateandsupport us**cough**.

Scroll through the list along the right border and read all the columnists’ brilliance.  Or you can just click the Columnist section link and read the little “auto-blurbies” (first 45 words) of each columnist as their columns are posted.
