Senior military commander pleads with the likes of Layton, Dion: stop using our troops for politics

On the heels of my blog entries yesterday chastising the so-called “leaders” of the Liberal Party and the you’ve got to be kidding party, as well as their liberal media who all saw fit to take the opportunity presented by the deaths of Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan to jump on their well-worn leftist political anti-war soap boxes to denounce Canada and its efforts, yet again:  today top military commanders spoke back and pleaded for support.

This is reported on none other than CTV.CA, from which one of the most treacherous displays of shoddy journalism took place throughout the day—with live breaking coverage of both Layton and Dion demeaning our soldiers and country or at the very least knowingly diminishing our resolve; and then their own effort at CTV—see their perfidy as blogged here—piled on.  They apparently thought it was the perfect time to spent the early part of their day tracking down self-anointed or pseudo “experts” firmly covering exactly why Canada should hold up a white flag and surrender to the Taliban, and then broadcasting it all day and night on and endless reel over and over.

That’s some o’ that famous liberal-left “compassion” for you.

Families need ‘clarion call’ of support: military

CTV.ca News Staff

Senior commanders at CFB Edmonton have called for quiet reflection on the recent deaths of six Canadian soldiers, rather than political debate on the mission. At least four of the slain men were based in Edmonton.

“I would encourage all of you that at this point in time, that the focus must be on repatriating these valiant soldiers and ensuring their families hear a clarion call of love and support from Canada,” said Col. Jon Vance.

“The families are well aware that there is debate on this mission. Nonetheless, at this particular point in time, the most sensitive and, I think, mature approach, would be to show them … love and support. These soldiers died in a mission that they believed in, and saw progress occurring.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Stephen Harper said Thursday that it was not appropriate to have an immediate debate about the mission in light of the recent deaths.

[Joel says: he was saying that all day yesterday too, in answer to tendentious questions from a badgering media.]

“Parliament has approved… (the mission) until February 2009, but obviously today is not the day to have a political debate on the future of the mission, we have the House of Commons for that,” Harper told reporters at a press conference in Halifax.

“Today is a day to express our condolences for these soldiers, to their families, to their comrades but as well to emphasize the support that we all share as parliamentarians for the important work that they do on behalf of our country.”

Harper’s comments come as Liberal Leader Stephane Dion and NDP Leader Jack Layton expressed serious misgivings Wednesday about Canada’s role in Afghanistan.

Read that last line again and put it up against that blog entry from yesterday in which I mentioned CTV creating and then re-running their interview with a far-leftist “analyst” (passed-off as a regular guy) who bemoaned the war effort all day long.  You see they failed to mention their own efforts at expressing “serious misgivings … about Canada’s role in Afghanistan”.

image In fairness, today CTV Newsnet broadcast an interview with the father of a soldier who died some time ago—who spoke in favor of staying until the job is done—saying Canada should continue to show leadership—and not cede to the demands of the opposition politicians (and, I suggest, al-Qaeda).  And of course he’s spot on.  But unlike the appeasing softball interview yesterday with the anti-war leftist that I blogged about, anchor Dan Matheson chose to debate this man, on every single point.

…And furthermore, they continue, today, to use peacenik leftist “Rideau Institute” “experts” masquerading as plain old objective experts (see yesterday’s blog entry—they don’t inform viewers of his leftist leanings today either) to bemoan the mission and diminish our resolve, in spite of all the above.
