When we were buying our new car we knew there was a shortage of RAV4s — Toyota’s bang-on small SUV — because dealers never had any in stock for us to buy. And that was at the beginning of that global recession thingy-dingy which, as I understand it from the media, George Bush caused because he was so stupid and “deregulation!” and CEOs are greedy and there wasn’t enough meddling in the economy by progressive/statist governments and there were no WMDs, or sum’n. (We got the Ford Escape because it satisfied our requirements of not being built by the Canadian Auto Workers union people, whose yelling thug-like boss Ken Lewenza blames the global recession on “right-wingers” and pro-business or what he called “corporate agenda” people, and who sounds very much like a communist to me. And because Ford accepted no government bailouts, just as Toyota didn’t.)
Now this non-union plant is hiring another 800 non-union people for their Ontario plant —in the middle of the recession yet — to satisfy demand. (I note that in the CTV.ca article they call the workers “people”. Not “non-union and possibly right-wing and corporate agenda-type pretend ‘working people’ who are out to destroy unions and ‘working families’, ‘on the backs of good honest workers’ [code for union members], yadda [15 exclamation points]”.)
But I still see things written-up in the media as though they were written by reporters who were hired directly from the defunct Soviet Union’s former PRAVDA news agency’s steno pool, wherein they always find a need to secure the highly self-esteemed opinion from those on high —that is the damn government —as if the government had one single thing to do with this announcement. This is in fact another example in which we can all celebrate capitalism, and the fact that the damn government had utterly NOTHING to do with this. Toyota accepted NO bailout cash like Chrysler and the now-government-owned GM did. And the workforce is non-union and needed exactly NO help from the government like the CAW and other unions did. They’ve just been working away, building one of the finest quality and in-demand cars anywhere. So why is the government’s opinions even remotely relevant?
Still… we must… print… the official… government…. opinion and …. reaction… otherwise this… just ain’t valid…
“The increase in RAV4 production means the addition of a second shift in Woodstock, the creation of 800 new jobs, more work for the entire supply chain—and most importantly it means that Toyota has confidence in Ontario’s workforce and business climate,” said Sandra Pupatello, Ontario’s minister of economic development and trade.
“This is a strong and tangible recognition of our highly skilled workforce, our competitive business environment and that Ontario is the best place in the world to build cars,” added federal Industry Minister Tony Clement.

And what did the official within the Secretariat of the State Planning Committee say? And the Official Information Secretariat?
Poop it out your exhaust pipe, Clement and Pupatello. Stay away from this. Government staying away from this is why it’s working. NOT meddling with capitalism and the free enterprise economy is what WORKS. Are you writing this down?
Blame it on Canadian Press for asking? OK sure. My answer to them would have been “Government staying away from this is why it’s working. NOT meddling with capitalism and the free enterprise economy is what WORKS. Are you writing this down?”
