Liberal loser in Delta: Media fed voters Conservative “lies”, so voters voted Conservative, see?

In one of the most ridiculous excuses for totally failing that I’ve heard in ages, the Liberal Party candidate in my own home town riding drummed up the dooziest.

The Conservative candidate, John Cummins, won again with nearly 56% of the vote, as is usual here.  The Liberal Dana Miller finished with 22%.

Reading the article in the Delta Optimist, at first, I thought that despite her massive loss, she was actually setting out to apologize for the abject perfidy exercised by the Liberals and by their fawning media division who are so in the tank for all liberal-left politicians and ideology, that even they have finally given up most of their pretense.

But then it suddenly took a hilarious turn.

“I think the results that we’re seeing tonight are indicative of what happened between politicians, political parties, public relations and media, and how the three work together,” she said.

“More and more, media, reporters are underpaid, overworked and relying on press releases from political parties and not looking at the facts of press releases, printing press releases, and what it’s essentially doing is sending out propaganda from political parties into the mainstream, so that a message that’s not necessarily true is fed into the mainstream…

“For two years, Canadians have been spoon-fed lies and unfortunately people believed them enough to come out to the polls and vote for the Conservatives.”

Do Canadians really think this way?  If so, how embarrassing for us that we’re so screwed-up in our thinking or perceptions that we now actually believe the opposite of reality.

Apparently, according to Miller, her colossal loss had nothing to do with her ability to communicate her “ideas” with constituents, nor the quality of her “ideas”.  For example like Miller’s words in her own campaign blog (don’t bother trying to find these words, as they have been removed from her blog and replaced with an “apology”).  This is what she typed in her campaign blog under the Liberal Party logo:

“Propaganda: The Canadian Gage dictionary defines it as, ’systematic efforts to spread opinions or beliefs, especially by distortion and deception: The Nazis were experts in propaganda.’ Conservative MP John Cummins has been complicit with his silence, compliant in following Stephen Harper propaganda. …”

I don’t recall the “Conservative” media trumpeting all across the nation that those “ideas” were openly discussed by a Liberal Party candidate under their Liberal Party logo, or watching as the “Conservative media” repeatedly demanded of Stephane Dion an explanation as to whether those words reflected the thinking of the Liberal Party or himself, over, and over, and over again, the way they do with all Conservative—oh what do they call them again…. oh yeah:  “GAFFES”.

Miller’s losing also had nothing to do with comments like this, in this letter to the editor of our local paper:

“…Canadians gave this government a minority with reason. Poll after poll Canadians stated their thoughts: Harper has a hidden agenda. … Do media conglomerates want Tories in government like Rupert Murdoch owner of FOX TV and USA Republican supporter, documented in dictating stories to media in the film, “OUTFOXED.” Will Canada share the same fate?…”
Delta Optimist, August 10, 2008

OK.  What

The liberals’ media division is all over, up and down, inside and outside, through and through, the Liberal Party these days as they help resurrect the Liberal Party.  Liberal Party leadership news now trumps all of what they tried to tell us during the election were issues!, issues!, issues!, like the environment and the economy and these things being the key to the very survival of Canada as a nation, by golly…  Their effort to help the Liberal Party recuperate from their election drudging and helping them drum up interest in the choosing of their fabulous new leader is the new media obsession, and it’s apparently the most important thing, ever.  Darn that Conservative media!

Anyway, go ahead.  Change the Liberal leader.  See above for the kind of people who run for—who are—the Liberal Party.

Hat tip to reporting found on Public Eye Online.
