Israel takes lead in bringing ceasefire

While Hezbollah and Hamas terrorists started it, it’s Israel who lays down tough conditions for ceasefire.

Israeli PM outlines conditions for ceasefire

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said Monday that his country will continue its offensive against Hezbollah until its two captured soldiers were released and Hezbollah no longer controls southern Lebanon.

In a speech to the Israeli parliament, Olmert said Israel wants Hezbollah disarmed and Lebanese army troops to control southern Lebanon.

“We shall seek out every installation, hit every terrorist helping to attack Israeli citizens, destroy all the terrorist infrastructure, in every place. We shall continue this until Hezbollah does the basic and fair things required of it by every civilized person,” said Olmert in his first major address since the fighting began six days ago.

I loved this nod to liberal-left moonbattery from the CTV.ca staff reporters who wrote this article:

UN Secretary General Kofi Annan is pleading with Israel to spare civilian lives.

Israel selectively and carefully hits military installations and targets, and Anan targets Israel.  Golly—I guess the brilliant U.N. leader endorses the indiscriminate firing of countless hundreds of rockets into civilian targets in towns and cities in Israel by terrorists.  Sounds right.

More sensible talk from Tony Blair—and even Europeans —and REAL, straight talk from no-nonsense Bush as usual (we need more like it):

As fighting intensifies in the Middle East, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Annan have called for the deployment of international forces.

Speaking on the sidelines of the Group of Eight summit in Russia, Blair said the only way to stop the fighting is “if we have a deployment of international forces that can stop bombardment coming into Israel.”

Blair said that would stop retaliatory air strikes from Israel.

The European Union has said it is considering sending such a force to Lebanon.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said Monday he would consider contributing troops to an international force, if it were approved by the United Nations.

During a private luncheon today at the G8 meeting in St. Petersburg, comments made by U.S. President George Bush on the conflict in the Middle East were picked up by a microphone.

Bush, who was munching on a roll, was heard telling Blair that Syria should get Hezbollah to “stop doing this shit.”

And of course, Bush is right.  But again I love how the unnamed CTV.ca staff reporters find it important to inform us that Bush was munching on a roll, in what appears to be an effort to paint a picture of Bush as an doofus ape.  That’s what you call a backfire statement.

And in more evacuation news:

The Canadian government has contracted three ships to sail from Cyprus to the coast of Lebanon in order to evacuate the estimated 40,000 to 50,000 Canadians who are in the country.
