Not a couple of days ago I lamented, as I am wont to do, about the liberal media constantly referring to Conservatives as “Tories”, while always referring to Liberals as “Liberals” rather than as the more tawdry-sounding and therefore more appropriate “Grits”. Read my lament here—it’s my shortest lament in weeks at less than 60 words!
But today reporter Alexander Panetta of Canadian Press has properly ceded to my demands. It was in his article about Stephen Harper’s fact-based assertion that while the Liberals’ fun-Bill demanding that the Conservatives respect Liberal-left ideology is pure bunkum (“meaningless” was his more conservative word), he will at least be polite about it.
OTTAWA (CP) – Prime Minister Stephen Harper says he’ll respect the Kyoto climate-change legislation forced through the Commons by the opposition – but he’s hinting the final result will be meaningless.
The legislation gives the government 60 days to come up with a plan to meet Canada’s obligations under the Kyoto Protocol and will become law once adopted by the Liberal-dominated Senate.
The Grit-sponsored legislation was passed by the lower house with the help of the other opposition parties Wednesday, over the strong objections of Harper and his minority Conservatives.
Grit-sponsored!
Vote Grrrrrit!
Ah but then he went ahead and called the Conservatives “Tories”. The blighter. And he continues to call the far left socialist fringes of the NDP—the “NDP” rather than the more precise “you’ve got to be kidding” party, indicating to me that he still takes them seriously.
