Is Google another “liberal-friendly media firm”?

You thought the bias against conservatives was limited to just the print media, TV media, book stores, and of course also from Canadian schools, colleges, universities, the bureaucracy, all unions, special interest groups, all levels of every government, crown corporations, quasi-crown corporations, the judiciary, the senate, and every other facet of Canadian life?  No no no my friends!  It apparently also extends to the internet’s largest and most-used search engine!

I read about this particular story yesterday or the day before on LGF.

Background:  LGF has been on Google’s case for some time now.  LGF has long been dismayed that they are repeatedly skipped over as one of Google’s information sources in their News.Google.com (which I find all but useless but that’s beside the point).  Yet plenty of two-bit left-wing web sites were not skipped over.  He has been offered all manner of excuses from Google.  Always hideous as I recall.

Now, another party, a right-wing web site called RightMarch.com, has done a simplistic scientific experiment to verify the some facts regarding Google’s questionable advertising policy when it comes to placing political ads in their Google AdWords system (you’ve seen them—they run along the right side of your Google searches—I’ve used them for advertising sites though not this one).

RightMarch.com copied an ad running on Google by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, who is trying to character-assasinate Tom DeLay (Republican)  because they’re liberals and that’s what liberals do.  He simply replaced the words “Tom DeLay” with the words “Nancy Pelosi” (a Democrat), and submitted it.  Result? Rejected.  Excuse?  Bogus.

Google Accused of Liberal Bias
After Refusing Conservative Ads

ATLANTA, May 4, 2005 (LifeSiteNews.com) – The world’s most popular search engine just lost points with Political Conservatives by turning down ads placed by RightMarch.com.  William Greene is founder of the firebrand conservative web site that dispatches millions of emails to its grassroots base. His organization has published full page ads in national newspapers supporting US conservative politicians Don Rumsfeldt, Tom DeLay and John Bolton.

But just as RightMarch.com attempted to launch a new wave of ad buys with Google.com, much to their amazement, Google refused the paid ad.  Greene took an existing anti-DeLay ad and changed the name “Tom DeLay” to “Nancy Pelosi” (a left-leaning Democrat) yet Google refused the anti-Pelosi ad and continues to run the anti-DeLay ads.

Greene said, “Simply put, Google is censoring conservative search ad results. Nancy Pelosi violated ethics rules far worse than what DeLay is accused of. All we did was to take a liberal ad and make it conservative. Isn’t turnabout fair play?”

The official reason Google cited for refusing the ad was: “Google policy does not permit ad text that advocates against an individual, group or organization.”

The question remains, said Greene, “If Google allows ads advocating against Tom DeLay, does this mean that Google does not recognize Tom DeLay as being a human being?”

Most of this search engine hits to this site come from Google searches, but who knows—maybe left-wing sites get lots more hits, and maybe the hits to this site will dry up.  I can only imagine that the mentality at Google in Canada would be even more liberal-friendly, given the apparent enticements allegedly offered by Liberals in Canada toward Liberal-friendly media firms using my tax dollars and yours.
