Here we go, s-l-o-w-l-y, sort of, maybe, tentatively, again

Liberal Prime Minister Paul (“we lead the world”) Martin is “mad as hell” and ….. oh wait.  Excuse me.  That was about the abject Liberal cronyism into every conceivable facet of Canadian life; or the hellacious Liberal Party corruption running rampant throughout Canadian government; or some other aspect of the Liberal Party and the way it rules over “their Canada” (as their 2004 campaign slogan went).

I think he was simply “damn sure” that our “rapid response”, “emergency” DART team (Canada’s Disaster Response Assistance Team) would be deployed in a more timely fashion next time—like not days or weeks after a crisis hits a region of the world as in the case of the tsunami in southeast Asia earlier this year (it actually happened in 2004, but it was well into 2005 that “DART” speeded into “emergency” action on behalf of Canada and humanity).

But just after I read the headline on the state-run media CBC.CA peoples’ web site, “Pakistan ends search for quake survivors”, I read that they were almost kinda getting nearly ready to RENT A RUSSIAN AIRPLANE because we don’t even have one, and MAYBE deploy our emergency rapid response team to Pakistan, approaching T-Plus Week Two now after the event.  Again

Canadian disaster assistance team readying for deployment to Pakistan

The military says a decision to send the Disaster Assistance Response Team to Pakistan hasn’t been made yet.

But preparations are underway, just in case the official word comes to deploy the DART.

Defence Department officials say a giant Russian Antonov AN-124 transport plane is headed for CFB Trenton in eastern Ontario in case it’s needed.

As well, the team’s equipment is being readied for shipment to the earthquake ravaged country.

If the decision to mobilize is made, it’s expected the equipment could be sent to Pakistan as early as Saturday.

However, the main body of the team – medical technicians, logistics experts and engineers – wouldn’t fly out until early next week.

I’m not against Canada sending DART.  I’m against Canada’s liberals dithering about whether to send DART days or weeks after the fact while helpless people die.

Here’s my insane plan:  Three minutes after a 7-point-anything earthquake anywhere, send DART and any other meager Canadian (CANADIAN—not rented RUSSIAN) assets we can muster that are in good repair and not in a million pieces in some warehouse somewhere for lack of maintenance funding.  If, after they arrive, we find that they’re not needed (I’ll bet my house against that happening), we can bring them home again.

Then, and only then, you can deploy your eight thousand unionized bureaucrats in Ottawa and countless Liberal-appointed minions in other Ontario and Quebec locations to write-up thousands of pages of paperwork and crunch all sort of numbers to see if we in Canada did right or wrong.

Any questions?
