As I mentioned yesterday, we have a new columnist on board, named Gerald Hayes. We already have our second column from him today, in which he pounces on the press.
I can’t imagine why.
Here’s a snippet from “Books and Tapes” in the Columnist section.
[…]Sickening press conferences ensued with the equally sickening revelations that investigators are instructed to handle prisoners’ Korans with reverent respect and to go as far as to wear gloves while they wrap these books in clean towels…. Listening to a US General being grilled by the press corps on the vital national security issue of book mishandling has to be the silliest and most outrageous event in my lifetime.
The people who are allegedly victimized are the people involved with blowing up discos and polling stations, crashing airplanes into buildings and setting off car bombs, people who saw off hostage’s heads and video tape the event, people who kidnap and kill aid workers, people who blow up mosques and kill fellow muslims, people who target UN mine clearing operation centers. These are people who swore that the streets of Baghdad would run red with the blood of the people who showed up to vote for their first free government. And the press corps is whining about how a soldier handled a BOOK?
