I kid Bono, especially when Canada’s Prime Minister Paul (“we lead the world”) Martin tries to look “street” and he mugs for the cameras with Bono at his side and says things like “ziggle my wiggle” to him with a knowing nod, and Bono plays along like the pretty darned diplomatic trooper that he is (many a Liberal Party politician could take diplomacy lessons from him).
Honestly, I think Bono’s a good enough man—he’s trying to do good, not bad, even if I do think it’s slightly misdirected and sometimes naive.
But sheesh, Bono, keep the ego in check, my friend. A little humility is in order, is all I’m saying.
Bono told Rolling Stone magazine in an interview before they dined that he had no fear of meeting Bush or any other world leader.
“They should be afraid, because they will be held accountable for what happened on their watch,” Bono told the magazine for an article on newsstands Friday. “I’m representing the poorest and the most vulnerable people. On a spiritual level, I have that with me. I’m throwing a punch, and the fist belongs to people who can’t be in the room, whose rage, whose anger, whose hurt I represent.
“The moral force is way beyond mine, it’s an argument that has much more weight than I have. So I’m not feeling nervous.”
Will he be responsible for what happens on his watch? Wait a sec…. what is his watch?
