American visits to Canada down to a 25-year low

I’m sure the value of the Canadian dollar has a lot to do with it.  Seems unless Canada is on red tag sale, as we have been since the Liberal Prime Minister Jean Chretien came to power and until recently, Americans can find other places to go.  That must be the only reason.  Nothing to do with liberal Canada officially hating Americans and telling them every way they can that they are hated and are in fact “idiots” and “morons”.  Oh and “bastards”.  “War criminals”.  “Imperialists”.  Jesus freaks”.  “Gun-toting yeehas”—or is it “yahoos”?  (Except of course the smug Canadian tolerant haters maintain their purchase of American products and services and entertainment at a record pace—shhh!).

But I like how the state-run CBC.CA people’s web site is kind of tripping on themselves explaining this, in their story.  Or is it the state-run Stats-Can division?  I’m not sure.  It’s all government talkin’ here, folks!

Americans aren’t travelling to Canada like they used to. New figures show the number of U.S. visitors in August was the lowest since the late 1970s.

Statistics Canada said only 2.4 million Americans made the trip to Canada that month. That was down 5.9 per cent from July.

The drop hit all segments — same-day car trips, overnight car trips, and air travel.

Then is says:

Statistics Canada speculates that the high Canadian dollar played a role in keeping Americans at home, along with high gasoline prices.

And yet poorer Canadians don’t have that problem.

High gas prices didn’t dissuade Canadians from driving south. Canadian motorists made 1.9 million same-day car trips the U.S. in August (up 3.6 per cent from the month before), while overnight car trips climbed to an eight-year high of 729,000.

Hard to argue with that Stats-Can speculative logic!

All I know is that it’s not the fact that Americans don’t feel welcome here any more—hated even.  I know this because the bastion of Canadian anti-Americanism, the state-run CBC informs me thusly.  They didn’t say anything about that factor being a possibility.  They couldn’t even find a university professor from a state-run university, for perhaps the first time in their history, to say that might be the case.  Odd.
