I liked the good old days when bus drivers (sorry — motor coach engineers) wore uniforms.
Everyone from Dave Letterman to Jon Stewart still always dress up for their part, but for some reason the state-owned national broadcaster CBC’s Kim Brunhuber (Kim is, as Jon Stewart would say, a “dude”), who anchors for their national news channel at noon eastern, dresses down.
It’s not that he doesn’t look smart in his fashionable vest —he looks fine, for a post-news meeting or coffee at the office in between shows. It’s just the symbolism of not bothering to wear a jacket for reasons of “style”, or whatever, on the big broadcast. I mean if what he wears matters so little, and to take the argument to its logical conclusion, then why not just present the news in your T-shirt or in pajamas?
It reminds me of when the Liberal socialist Ujjal Dosanjh showed up for an interview with CBC anchor Nancy Wilson on the state media channel one day, wearing a butt-ugly fishing vest. And hilariously, like they planned it, Wilson was also wearing an ugly fishing vest for the big broadcast that day.
I’m thinking this is really another sign of the great respect with which the CBC and so many progressives regard its viewers and compatriots.
