Fourteen seconds after hearing about the most recent deaths of Canadian troops in Afghanistan, liberalvision CTV and all other liberal mainstream media immediately set out to once again question and denounce and minimize our resolve to the greatest extent possible the Afghanistan war mission (and by extension the work of our heroic soldiers). They did this using now well-worn, nefarious liberal media methods which included but was not limited to purposely seeking out the viewpoints of a far-leftist anti-Afghanistan war “expert”, whom they passed off to the viewers as just another expert.
Today on their “Question Period” show, they no doubt begrudge the words of their guest, Mirwais Nahzat, a spokesperson for “Afghanistan Peace Ambassadors” (sounds like Layton and Dion would have approved of that guy, what with “Peace Ambassadors” in their name!). That’s because he didn’t exactly toe their line. And so the story is buried, seemingly about to be pushed off their list as you can see. Let’s hope Prime Minister Harper doesn’t drop a pancake while flipping somewhere in Canada this morning, or the story will definitely be right off their page to make room for the breaking pancake news.
Canadian soldiers having positive impact: group
Updated Sun. Jul. 15 2007 1:23 PM ET
CTV.ca News StaffWidespread corruption in Afghanistan is slowing efforts to improve the quality of life for average citizens, but Canadian soldiers are having a definite impact on the ground, according to a group monitoring the country’s human rights situation.
“This is a country that has seen 30 years of destruction, in all infrastructures in the country, whether it’s roads, schools or buildings. So rebuilding takes time,” Mirwais Nahzat, spokesperson for Afghanistan Peace Ambassadors, told CTV’s Question Period Sunday.
[…]
But he said Canadians must keep faith that military efforts in the country are working and are crucial to bringing stability to Afghans.
“Because of the onslaught of negativity in the media coverage, we are not getting a balanced view of Afghanistan,” he said.

Mirwais said Canadians need to know about the positive impact their soldiers have had in Afghanistan.
“Change is happening. In 2004, every month 100 Afghans were killed by landmines. These are the same landmines that take away the lives of Canadians. Now, partly because of Canadian contributions, that number has been reduced to 40 lives per month. That means 60 Afghan lives are being saved on a monthly basis,” he said.
“Add to that polio vaccinations, which have been a tremendous success. Afghanistan holds one of the worst child and maternal mortality rates in the world. Very recently, that number has been surprisingly reduced, saving the lives of thousands of people.
“So there are Canadian development workers, aid workers, diplomats and soldiers who are doing a tremendous job. But the country is in turmoil, it’s in crisis, and it will take time for changes to happen.”
Nonetheless, as if he wasn’t listening during his own interview, CTV expert reporter Robert Fife later informed us that “there’s no improvement on the ground” there. He’d know better. He’s in the media.
By the way, I just love how the author of this story, a fella named “Mr. CTV News Staff”, interjected some juicy stuff in the story (which was about CTV’s Question Period today) that he must surely hope will bolster what I’m guessing is his anti-Afghanistan war agenda. It occurred where you see the ** above. He added this tidbit:
Last week, a Canadian Press-Decima Research poll found that 67 per cent of respondents felt the number of Canadians killed or wounded is unacceptably high—even when considering whatever progress has been made rebuilding Afghanistan.
By contrast, only 25 per cent of those surveyed felt the casualties were acceptable.
That wasn’t brought up in the show. “Mr. CTV News Staff” saw fit to bring that up himself. Gratuitously.
And as another aside, who in tarnation is going to answer the question “Yeah, baby, casualties are acceptable”. This is another example of an absolutely specious poll and result, which is really just unacceptable to intelligent people; and I think it’s clearly intellectually dishonest from a journalistic point of view. But liberalvision doesn’t care about that.
