Canada’s U.N. peacekeeping now on par with Guatemala and Puru

Canadians have been so brainwashed by the liberalism that dominates every facet of our lives now in this country, that Paul Martin can constantly get away with saying that Canada “leads the world” in peacekeeping, and these sorts of things.  I have a feeling that most Canadians actually believe Canada leads the U.N. and its peacekeeping operations—- that Canada is still, as it may have once been, a world leader in this regard.

And Paul (“we lead the world”) Martin, as I like to call him, will no doubt keep telling us during this coming election as he did during the last election campaign, that Canada “leads the world” —-even as this latest report comes out —the latest in a rather large pile of reports proving that you’ve all been mislead.  Mislead by people who respect you so little, that they’ll lie to you to deceive you about your own country and its state of affairs.  And they do this simply to keep Conservatives from power, and themselves in power.

They can’t let you know the truth —-about our military, our health care system, or any number of other important things.

Canada has all but abandoned taking part in United Nations missions and is now on par with Peru and Guatemala in the number of troops it contributes to the world body, a new study to be presented to the Commons finance committee has found.

As of July, Canada had 216 military personnel assigned to UN operations, putting the nation in 36th position as a contributor of soldiers, according to the report by the Polaris Institute of Ottawa. The left-leaning think-tank notes that over the past 10 years, the Liberal government has embarked on a full-scale retreat from UN missions in favour of taking part in ad hoc U.S. or NATO-led operations. Many of the Canadian troops now serving overseas are in Afghanistan taking part in the U.S.-led war against the Taliban and al-Qaeda.

“The Canadian public still thinks we’re heavily engaged in peacekeeping operations in support of the United Nations,” said Steve Staples, director of security programs for the institute. “But there’s a real disconnect between where our troops and resources are actually being devoted and what the Canadian public thinks the Canadian Forces are doing.”

In 1992-93, the government spent a little more than $9 of every $10 earmarked for overseas missions on UN operations. Today that spending level for UN missions has dropped to 31 cents out of every $10.

The report noted that Canada’s position is expected to fall even further since the Defence Department has announced its intention to withdraw nearly 150 personnel from the UN observer force in the Golan Heights.

I’m not even arguing the fact that Canada is concentrating more in the war on terror than on U.N. peacekeeping—I’ve said over and over we should be fully engaged in the global war against terrorism.  But to lie to me and my countrymen and to constantly deceive Canadians to the point where they all believe complete lies —is unforgivable.  It’s yet another scandal as if there aren’t enough stemming from the Liberal Party and the liberal-left in general.
