Once again—in fact for the fourth week in a row—we can see that Canadians choose to watch the same American shows that Americans watch, in what I understand from the liberals in Canada to be simply a coincidence of a national and yet uncoordinated learning project of some kind, since the liberals would have us believe we don’t want anything to do with those “anti gay-marriage Jesus-freak idiots”.
And to ensure that we only see what we can stomach, in Canada, Canadians are only allowed to watch the channels that the state-run censors, the CRTC division of the Liberal Party, allow Canadians to watch. It is not a free market. And the cable operators and broadcasters must show a certain amount of Canadian content, again as prescribed not by “markets” or anything “free” like “what Canadians want to watch” (don’t be silly! This is Canada!), but rather according to the liberal elites—and what they decide.
Why? Because, as if we didn’t already know this, we’re all too stupid to decide for ourselves. The Liberal government must spend our money for us, look after our kids, mind our physical health (we’re not even allowed, by law, to spend our own money on our own basic health care needs—did you know that?), and of course decide what we can and cannot watch on TV and listen to on the radio. They know better than us. Like I had to tell you!
Fox News Channel, which was banned until just this past November, was only unbanned due to enormous pressure from people like me, and only after Al-Jazeera was OK’d first. It’s by far the number one cable news channel in the United States, and is now available to Canadians through Rogers cable, most of Shaw cable, Cogeco cable, and StarChoice satellite service. Fox News Channel allows conservative thoughts to leak out unchecked by liberal-left retorts in a remarkable and obviously successful experiment in fair and balanced news media that liberals HATE with a passion.
In the latest Bureau of Broadcast Measurement chart, only one Canadian TV show cracked the top-20 shows in Canada: the (private enterprise) CTV Network’s nightly news program. The state-run CBC division of the Liberal Party has done the highly unusual this week, managing to crack the top-20 with…. a non-Canadian movie—a Harry Potter movie. They still manage to come up with not even one Canadian show that cracks the top-20. They get over one BILLION taxpayer dollars to accomplish this feat. How many BILLIONS of taxpayer cash would they need to crack the top-20? I don’t know—but last week a private enterprise network and a private enterpriser/comedian, Brent Butt, managed to crack the top-20 with his excellent “Corner Gas” sitcom (although it’s government subsidized, like nearly every single thing in Canadian life is now, thanks to the liberal-left in this country which is trying to emulate Cuba and North Korea).
