“If something should happen, you won’t need to worry”

A funeral for one of the RCMP members, Const. Peter Schiemann,  killed by a pot-grower/savage was held today, and it was an absolutely beautiful service.

Slain Mountie had told dad he’d be with Jesus in Heaven if killed on duty

STONY PLAIN, Alta. (CP) – He was the youngest of the four victims – just 25, and reportedly not even scheduled to be working, when he was gunned down with three other Mounties by a cop-hating loner with a high-powered assault weapon.

Const. Peter Schiemann was remembered Tuesday as a loving son, brother and devoted Mountie, a young man who adored his job and had even reassured his worried father, Don, about his line of work before he was killed in a stakeout of James Roszko’s property in Mayerthorpe, Alta., last week.

“If something should happen, you won’t need to worry,” Rev. Dr. Ralph Mayan quoted Schiemann as saying as he addressed hundreds of mourners Tuesday, including row upon row of scarlet-clad Mounties, at the first funeral held for one of the slain officers. “I’ll be with Jesus in Heaven.”

“Those words Peter shared with his father on one occasion as they talked about the risks and dangers associated with the police force,” said Mayan, president of the Lutheran Church of Canada.

Schiemann’s emotional younger sister, Julia, remembered her brother as being devoted to his family as well as to the RCMP.

“He was a son and a brother whose love for his family was evident at all times,” she told mourners, adding he was also devout and selfless. “His enthusiasm and determination never diminished as he worked to serve God and his country.” [… (20 seconds) …]
