Bush doctrine update: more success, more optimism

More great news as the attitude-adjustment among the citizens of the middle east continues to unfold and reveal the fruits of the Bush doctrine.  You may have missed this because the liberal-left (i.e., the media and the teachers and the government) in Canada are more concerned about gay ‘marriage’; making it easier for kids to get high on drugs by relaxing post-smoking laws; and setting up more government-run socialist programs like universal daycare—than in boring old “freedom” and “democracy” and such.

Today in Lebanon, people are positively swarming the streets demanding what President George Bush reminded them they have every God-given right to demand—freedom—and an attitude which he encouraged and reinforced by proving in every way possible that he and America are right there behind them.  Even Ted Kennedy was forced to admit it’s working.

This of course is bad news for liberals—especially in Canada because they’ve so missed the boat and are even further behind the American liberals—who are now largely in full dudgeon amidst all the success of the Bush doctrine and all the annoying freedom and democracy breaking out all over the place; but the good, sensible people here (conservatives), are and always have been on the right side— in full support—and are now even more optimistic than ever.

Syria Out Now

Not to fisk everything in sight, but according this AFP story, how many people were at the rally?  The AFP reporter informs us that it’s “up to” 150,000.  So did they count them?  Not likely, no.  They would normally rely on the police.  But the police say “more than 150,000 people attended”.  The organizers say “between 200,000 and 250,000”.  How did the reporter arrive at “up to 150,000?”  Seems to me it’s up to 250,000, or nearly double what the reporter would have us believe.  It just seems to me at anti-America rallies, the official media estimates are always based on the organizers’ estimates.

Opposition holds mass rally in Beirut as Syria prepares for army pullback

BEIRUT (AFP) – Up to 150,000 opposition supporters rallied in Beirut three weeks after the murder of ex-premier Rafiq Hariri as Syria prepared for a troop pullback in Lebanon in the face of international pressure.

Lebanese red-and-white flags and chants of “Syria Out” filled the central Martyrs’ Square as President Emile Lahoud held much anticipated Damascus talks on the promised redeployment to the eastern Bekaa Valley.

The pullback to the Bekaa will take place by the end of March, according to a joint statement issued after the summit between Lahoud and his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad.

There have been daily protests against Syria’s dominant role in its smaller neighbour since Hariri’s death in a February 14 bomb blast widely blamed on Damascus.

The pro-Syrian government of prime minister Omar Karameh already announced its resignation last week.

According to police, more than 150,000 people attended Monday’s rally in Martyrs’ Square, where Hariri is buried, to demand the truth about the Damascus critic’s death.

Organisers of the rally gave a figure of between 200,000 and 250,000.

To the rhythm of tambourines, the protestors then marched the two kilometers (just over one mile) to the seafront site of the bomb attack, brandishing photographs of the public prosecutor and six intelligence chiefs whose dismissal they are demanding over the blast.

“Truth, freedom, national unity,” chanted the crowd.
