Yesterday this Associated Press headline caught my eye:
AP Poll: GOP Pick Is ‘None of the Above’
It’s | all | over | the | media.
Of course the headline is meant to convey that folks can’t stand ANY of the Republican presidential candidates who have announced thus far. But it’s total bunkum. The actual story is of a poll in which the largest number of respondents answered “Don’t Know” or “Not Saying”—possibly as in: They’re all so damn good I can’t decide; or Which one won’t clean Hillary’s clock to exceedingly embarrassing proportions; or I don’t want to say until I know who else is running; or, I’m busy working or spending time with my family so ask someone else; or even It’s a year before I have to even remotely decide, Bucky, so bugger off.
(See for yourself—PDF file—page 9 on it)
Here’s the actual question:
If the 2008 Republican presidential primary or caucus in your state were being held today, and the candidates were…for whom would you vote?
And here’s the actual answer:
Rudy Giuliani 21
Fred Thompson 19
John McCain 15
Mitt Romney 11
Newt Gingrich 5
Mike Huckabee 3
Sam Brownback 1
Other 2
None 8
(DK/NS) 15
So as you can see, in actual fact, 15% answered “don’t know” or “not saying”, plus 8% said “none”. Thus, the AP story concludes, 15+8=23 so 23% said “none of the above”.
And so that’s what you call biased anti-Republican total BS. And all those media outlets who ran it are party to it.
By the way, what they also don’t tell you except in the most sheepish manner possible at the very end, is that nearly 60% of the people polled were… DEMOCRATS.
