Canadian Press headline: leftist-appeasing madness

Email from someone who knows—a long-time PTBC supporter, a conservative, a capitalist, and a Canadian who works in the mining industry in the U.S. and who used to live in Chile working in the mining industry.  In other words an expert who will never, ever be interviewed by any Canadian Press reporter or the state-run CBC about mining issues because it would bring balance to their reportage.

SUBJECT: Gotta love CP……

“Controversy swirls over Harper’s plan to visit miner’s offices in Chile”

“He’s scheduled to visit mining company Barrick Gold’s headquarters in Santiago Wednesday. The company is accused of contributing to the melting of three glaciers, displacing indigenous people in the area and damaging river water quality – charges Barrick denies.”

#1) I guess people are guilty now whenever a greenie accuses them.

#2) Barrick was going to “move” the glacier…. not melt it!

#3) The altitude of pasqua-llama is a little high for there to be any indigenous peoples……

#4) All mines are ALWAYS charged with damaging water quality.

The big opposition to this operation?  Barrick is giving Good jobs to the locals and the ranchers don’t like that.  They might have to give raises to keep their cheap labour

Here’s the CP story from Yahoo News.  Note all the scare words.

SANTIAGO, Chile (CP) – There’s controversy over how Prime Minister Stephen Harper plans to spend his last day in Chile.

He’s scheduled to visit mining company Barrick Gold’s headquarters in Santiago Wednesday. The company is accused of contributing to the melting of three glaciers, displacing indigenous people in the area and damaging river water quality – charges Barrick denies.

One Chilean environmental activist says it’s not appropriate for Harper to visit the company’s Santiago office and that he should instead urge Barrick to comply with environmental laws.

But Harper shrugged off the controversy Tuesday, saying Barrick “follows Canadian standards of corporate social responsibility.”

Fair and balanced.

Insert laughter here.
