Wisdom from the roots

I liked this comment made yesterday by “funkmeister” in the blog entry called “Make my day. Ignore the liberal-left and their media”.  (It’s #7—and don’t be sad, I like all comments)

The media seems to by trying to warm us up for something. I saw this in the Calgary Herald last friday:

Workers in Alberta are at the forefront of a disturbing trend among Canadians: they’re dropping out of the labour force, according to a new report from Statistics Canada.

Nowhere is that trend stronger than among women in their mid-30s to their mid-40s, women like Calgarian Teal Hodgson, who decided to leave the labour force two years ago due to changing career goals, an opportunity to begin a family and a household income that would support the choice.

On the local CBC news the night before this article appeared, they profiled a group of stay-at-home-moms.
This ladies are all pretty wealthy, and the slant of the article was that only very wealthy people could afford to have stay-at-home-moms.

The news cast made these moms look pretty frivolous and rather hedonistic. They have maids etc, to do all their work, so that they can ski all day, or drink wine, or what not.

Basically the message is only the wealthy can afford to stay at home and raise their kids. For the rest of us, we need state sponsored child care.

My wife is a stay at home mom, and I can tell you that she is not skiing or drinking wine at some fancy restaurant while the kids are in school. She works pretty darn hard, and it has been quite a financial sacrifice for us.

If I wanted communism I would move to Cuba. I hope the Conservatives initiative passes.

What does the state-run CBC want?
