Why do the extreme-leftist fundamentalists like Jack Layton and other liberals work so hard to put doubts into people’s minds when it comes to freeing people and fighting to give them dignity in Afghanistan, Iraq, and elsewhere and winning the war on terror? Is it because they’d really like to sacrifice those poor people in order to see the Americans under George Bush defeated as a world power ultimately? Is this the long-range hope and desire of the far left in Canada?
Defence Minister Gordon O’Connor asked this in the sparsely-populated House of Commons yesterday during the ridiculous exercise perpetrated by the left (from CTV.ca):
“Must we wait for terrorists to appear in Vancouver, Montreal or here in Ottawa before we recognize the very real threat that they represent for our security?’‘
The left would answer “yes we should wait”. And then they’d still question and protest against fighting them—many leftists would join the protest—just as they did and are still doing this very day. They are questioning fighting the Taliban terrorists in Afghanistan despite their ongoing war on America and the entire western civilization. They literally expect America—and Canada—to sit on our hands and wait for the attacks and then simply take it. They ultimately want America to lose. At any cost.
Losing is their exit strategy.
Harper didn’t attend the debate. Neither did Bloc Leader Gilles Duceppe.
In fact, the House of Commons was mostly empty during the five-hour debate with groups of MPs showing up to lend support to one particular speaker or the other.
While there were only eight NDP MPs at the beginning of the debate, the entire caucus of 29 MPs was in the House to hear their leader Jack Layton speak.
Similarly, about 60 of the 122 members of the Conservative caucus were on hand to hear Defence Minister Gordon O’Connor.
But as soon as O’Connor was done, many Conservative MPs left and for much of the night less than 20 were present.
Though there are 102 Liberal MPs in the House, just 21 of them were present when their defence critic Ujjal Dosanjh spoke. Opposition Leader Bill Graham did not deliver a speech although he asked a question of O’Connor during the debate.
The poorest attendance at the debate was from Bloc Quebecois MPs. When the BQ defence critic Claude Bachand spoke for his party, there was just one other Bloc MP present in the House. And for the first three hours of the debate at least, there were never more than four Bloc MPs present out of a caucus of 51.
Earl McRae of the Ottawa Sun wrote a good piece this morning about a chat he had with an ex-Afghani now living in Canada where he is free:
Wake-up call needed in Dreamland
[…] “I trust you,” he says. “I have to talk because it scares me that so many Canadians are being cowards. Do you not think the Taliban hears all of this? They know all they have to do is keep the pressure up, kill more Canadian soldiers, and Canadians will force the government to retreat. The Canadian people have soft stomachs. The Taliban, al-Qaida, they know our weakness.”
He leans across his kitchen table in his apartment. “Have you ever sat in a restaurant and talked about politics with people and criticized the Canadian government?”
Yes, I tell him.
“Because you are free,” he says. “There is nothing to be afraid of. Could you live in a society where if you did that, you would be killed? Under the Taliban, you would never, never do that. You can’t trust anybody. Not even your friends. They might say yes, yes, you are right—and then tell the Taliban and the next thing there is a knock at your door and you are taken away and killed.”
On the table is a sheet of paper upon which he’s written things down in pencil. “I made a list for you. Ask your Canadian newspaper customers if they think it is right that people should have to live like this. Ask if they would like to be treated like rotting garbage.”
Under the Taliban, he says, women in Afghanistan are confined to their homes, good only for housework and to serve the sexual needs of their husbands.
They are not allowed to hold jobs outside the home. They are not allowed to be educated. They are not allowed to play sports.
They are not allowed to wear make-up. If they’re caught having painted their finger or toenails, the nails are ripped out. They are not allowed to wear shoes that make a sound when they walk because under the Taliban, their footsteps must not be heard by men. They are not allowed to tell jokes. They are not allowed to speak or laugh loudly. They are not allowed to expose their faces. They are not allowed to wear clothes other than burqas.
Under the Taliban, neither sex can listen to music or watch TV or go to movies for enjoyment. Under the Taliban, men are not allowed to shave their beards or mustaches. Under the Taliban, those whose names are not Islamic must change them to Islamic names. Under the Taliban, those who are not Islamic must wear distinct coloured markers on their clothing.
Violate any of the above, he says, and one faces death by whipping or stoning.
But the perplexed man resigns himself with this last sentence:
“It is a terrible thing to say, and I would not want it to happen. But maybe the only thing that will wake Canadians up is a terrorist attack in Canada that kills hundreds or thousands of people.”
But no—as I said, the Jack Laytons of Canada and the world and many other liberals (all extreme left liberals) would still question and protest against the need for action if that happened, as they have done and continue to do today. They want the terrorists to win against America at any cost—even at the cost of Canadian lives. They hate America—and they must also hate Canada enough to sacrifice it.
