What’s in a name, Jack? (Or is that Juliet?)

Juliet's empty balconyWhat’s old is “news”… again

Or to put it another way, Canada’s media-supported party, the old dinosaur labor-union-owned you’ve got to be kidding party, and its national union meeting/convention, is yet again (without logical explanation) being supported err propped-up, um, reported on by the “news” media.  Almost as if it matters one whit.  Headline in “news”:  NDP talk strategy, possible name change in N.S.

“What’s in a name? That which we call a rose
By any other name would smell as sweet.”

—Juliet, to Romeo, in Romeo and Juliet (II, ii, 1-2)

It “would smell as sweet”?  Hmm.  I dunno.

In the case of what I’ve always called the you’ve got to be kidding party?  No.  Not so much.  It would still stink up the joint, Jack.

CBCs supportive coverage of their party eventAt its convention, the “New Democratic Party” is once again musing about changing their image by simply dropping the “New” from, well, you know, the rest.  Note that the convention is in Nova Scotia, where they have no intention of dropping the Nova.  (I understand however that the NDP-led province of Manitoba is considering changing the name to the more politically-correct Personitiba.)

This massive “strategy” policy dilemma, and the ever so “news-y” free advertising news reporting, is no doubt to try to capitalize on (ooh!… bad choice of word in “capitalize”! —but “socialize” don’t work here!) their relatively far-right messiah (ooh!… bad choice of word!) err non-religious icon figure and hero, Barack Obama, and his ill-fated Democratic Party’s now drastically fading electoral success.  Yes in typical funky-trend-following fashion, the you’ve got to be kidding party is exquisitely belated in its grasp of trends and concepts, upon which it so relies for “progressive” and “forward-thinking” policy “ideas”.  Obama, who used to be like a rock star to the left, is now trending downward like a big rock, in the U.S.  Or like Romeo.

Dropping “New” is simply old politics;  yet another specious bit of nonsense, a sleight of hand, slapping another coat of paint over a another rotting rusty-red patch.  CBCs supportive coverage of their party eventWhat they need is precisely things and ideas that are new, not old.  Some possible suggestions:  Going away, for example.  Or, alternatively, quitting the nation-busting, class-warfare, and freedom-busting politics of socialism altogether, and finally grasping true Canadian heritage concepts like freedom and capitalism and personal responsibility and reliance on self and family and God and community instead of government — you know, real Canadian values — instead.  These are just some of the many new “strategy” ideas I came up with off the top of my head after a few sips of coffee this morning.  Imagine what you could do after all of y’all smoke some pot, later today.

CBCs supportive coverage of their party eventJuliet also said, of Romeo, upon finding out his name and familial heritage:

My only love sprung from my only hate!
Too early seen unknown, and known too late!
Prodigious birth of love it is to me
That I must love a loathèd enemy.

As long as they refuse to love that loathèd enemy (Canada, as it was established), in the meantime, they should keep the “New”, and change the rest, instead of trying to change Canada to suit their far-left world view.  I’ve suggested “New Socialist Party” in the past, but I still maintain “the you’ve got to be kidding party” suits them, and all of us Canadians, best.
OOPS. How'd this picture get in there?
By the way on the subject of names, I’ve dubbed the Conservative Party of Canada “Liberal Party Too” (and it too would stink rather than “smell as sweet”).  In the end, all three parties are irreducibly “progressive” parties, meaning they’re all after the same things, which is manifestly bigger government and lesser individuals and families, just at different speeds.  What we really need in this country is a party that is unabashedly conservative, in the mold of, say, Ronald Regan.  That would be new.  And positively refreshing.
