I find that Liberal-leftists generally —particularly a columnist at the very liberal-left even while holding themselves out to be fair and balanced Toronto Star —continually refer to this site as “fanatical” and “ultra right” in its effort to characterize Canadian conservatives as being ignoble beasts in some way. To shame us or paint us as being implacable and incapable of moderate rational thought on any matter. As, of course, only they are.
Even the former COPE Party mayor of Vancouver, the neo-communist (he’d have no problem with that accurate description) Larry Campbell, whom outgoing PM Paul Martin appointed to the Senate (as a Liberal) to reward him for his help in the 2004 election, called conservatives “barbarians”. Again: “barbarians”.
They do it over and over and over, and now it’s totally acceptable to say things like that about conservatives. You know how that acceptability thing works. The Prime Minister rewarded a mayor for calling conservative Canadians—million of good people—“barbarians”. That’s how well it works.
Have you noticed there’s no such thing as an extreme left-winger? For that self-described intellectual set—the liberal-left—the word “extreme” seems reserved for conservative Canadians, of all things. Well us and George Bush of course. He’s sooper-dooper extreme I guess. I imagine them itching to call us “Nazis” but for the backfire effect that has lately caused. So they only do that in private emails to me.
