I chatted online recently with U.S. comedian and writer at the Wall Street Journal’s OpinionJournal.com, Julia Gorin, after reading her Petitioning for Life editorial there. She obliged us and let us post it in our columnist section, here (it’s a great read—serious, not funny).
Today she gave me a heads-up on a new thing she’s embarking on: it’s…. a conservative TV show? No that’s not just another comedian’s joke. I checked and that’s correct, that’s right, a conservative TV show. Yes, three conservative gals chat it up about conservative values. Imagine the protests that will come if this thing is ever allowed to grow legs and get on the air. In order to shut them up I smell (and I use the word smell advisedly) a liberal-left hippie pro-free speech march in front of the TV network that picks it up, which will of course include protestations against the show, plus the Patriot Act, and Halliburton, and “Bush”, just while they’re there. And I bet the gals would cover it for laughs! If they did, I’d watch it.
She put up a video on YouTube.com and it’s entertaining. Hopefully she’ll get it picked-up by one of the networks.
Here’s the setup she supplied us:
Did you catch Bill O’Reilly recently bemoaning the fact that there aren’t any conservative late-night comedians/hosts? He had on TV columnist Jeanne Wolf from Parade Magazine, and she gave the usual hack response: “Maybe conservatives just aren’t as funny—not on purpose, anyway!”
Well I want to tell the world that The America Show is coming. It’s a TV pitch I’m currently shopping around with the two chicks who co-wrote it with me. It’ll be a female Daily Show with a conservative bent. Comedy’s next frontier: pro-American, pro-West humor, baby! There’s a short clip of us gals gabbing conservatively at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjZaYCjsRBk (It sort of comes across as a Republican Girls Gone Wild.)
Here’s the above-noted video right here (click once or twice to get it to play):
