Teachers’ federation gets strike notice from staff

Administrative employees of the B.C. Teachers’ Federation have served their employer union with 72-hour strike notice, which has the potential to disrupt the BCTF’s annual general meeting later this month.
The employees, members of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers’ Union, are accusing the BCTF of stripping their contract and seeking concessions—the same accusations teachers have levelled against the Liberal government during their negotiations.
“The BCTF has forgotten its union principles,” CEP local president Anita Chapman said in a news release Tuesday. “It’s trying to strip us of some of the contract provisions we fought long and hard to achieve. If we were to allow the BCTF to proceed with these Liberal government-type tactics, half of the teachers in this province would be vulnerable to the same stripping.” […]
