CNEWS.canoe.ca’s poll question today asks the vital question on everybody’s mind: Will recent job loss data affect your holiday spending?
Of course the answer is that Remembrance Day holiday shopping never was a really big shopping thing. Christmas, on the other hand is huge. I’m pretty sure they meant Christmas because one of the possible answers is “I still need to check my naughty and nice list.” Which is funny because PTBC must check ours too (see below), and CNEWS just made the “naughty” side of ours.
Of course CNEWS and their ever-so objective and politically-correct minions could simply be confused about “holidays” generally. Their poll is positioned just to the left of their news story about something called the “Obama holiday”. It seems an obviously liberal-left Obamaton county down south is, the story tells us, “sparing little during five days of festivities” to celebrate… Barack Obama. I’ll bet they don’t spend taxpayer cash and devote five days celebrating our little December 25 thang, which is ironic, given the comparisons to how much each has successfully given us over the past 2000-odd years.
County employees, as well as city workers in Marion and Uniontown, will get a paid holiday Monday as government offices close, culminating a series of events including an old-fashioned civil rights rally and march, a golf tournament, a weekend carnival and a parade Monday through Marion.
Well that’s just the perfect thing to do in the middle of a recession in a county where there is 18% unemployment. This is how liberals think, ladies and gentlemen of the naughty ‘n nice jury.
But at least they called it “the OBAMA holiday”, unlike the politically-correct useful idiots and secular-progressives who are trying to remove the Christ from Christmas and go to ridiculous ends to avoid those words entirely, but who, if they were in their right minds could call it “the CHRISTMAS holiday” or, you know, just “Christmas”, which is what it is. I mean as opposed to the politically-correct “holiday” or (and I promise we’ll see the likes of these again this year), the “happy-tree fest”, the “winter solstice celebrations”, the “happy-time” of “seasonal values”, the “festive season”, “the merry season”, “gift time”, and of course ‘Kwanzaa”.
Of course the crack reporter on the “Obama holiday” case let one slip when he included this paragraph, which contains within it the real salient subjacent rationale for that “holiday”:
Roshawd Shepherd, a junior at R.C. Hatch High School in Uniontown, said he’s only 16, but will be old enough to vote for Obama if he runs for re-election in 2012.
As for that “holiday” referred to by CNEWS, which as those of us in the sensible set know is actually called “Christmas” (having to do with Jesus, who isn’t running for office in 2012), I’ve already begun accumulating this year’s list of businesses and governments who are purposely calling it Christmas (the nice, as CNEWS calls “holiday” gift recipients), and those who purposely call it anything but Christmas (the “naughty”), for PTBC’s annual “It’s Called CHRISTMAS!” list. .
Here’s an early example: It’s the first Walmart Christmas flyer of the season. Seasoned PTBC readers know that there was a time when Walmart was on our “naughty” list, but they made an official policy decision to stop calling it anything but Christmas as a result of a consumer backlash.

Hi Joel:
I got this the other day in one of those emails that gets forwarded a million times. Obviously, there are still millions of people who haven’t seen it…especially in the Alabama.Black Belt, named for its rich soil, apparently the only thing that’s rich in the entire county.
“Political correctness is a doctrine, fostered by a delusional, illogical minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.”
Merry Obamas
Brian
And a merry Obamas to you and yours, Brian.

Thanks Mark. And have what Zellers (which call themselves “Canada’s Holiday Store”) says is a happy “Festive Traditional Holiday” on page 6 of their ever so “festive” flyer. I suggest people shop at Walmart instead, where they celebrate Christmas like normal Canadians do.
Merry festive holiday tradition!
