***UPDATE***
Robert Fife just reported on CTV Newsnet that Stronach has quietly told friends that she imagines the Liberal Party will be “slaughtered” in the next election, which I guess may be one of the reasons she’s making up all the ridiculous excuses I just heard during her news conference to explain her decision to not run for leadership.

Belinda Stronach is expected to announce later today that she will not enter the race for the federal Liberal leadership.
Stronach has scheduled a news conference shortly to discuss the federal Liberal leadership race.
CTV’s Ottawa bureau chief Robert Fife said everyone had been expecting Stronach to make a bid to replace former Prime Minister Paul Martin.
“In fact, she would have probably had a fairly good showing. But family and friends say that she felt that her French wasn’t good enough,” Fife told CTV Newsnet.
“And some other people were saying she just needs more time in the House of Commons – more time to learn the game of politics.”

Family and friends didn’t tell her these things when she was vying for leadership of the Conservative Party? Now that she’s more experienced and has learned more French, she’s not qualified yet to be leader of the Liberal Party?
Did the CTV’s Robert Fife ask all her “friends and family” and “some other people” about that glaring incongruity? Well no, it appears he did not. Rather incurious of him don’t you think?
