I personally found the President’s State of the Union address to be inspired.
I realize that comment will cause chokes and guffaws of forced acerbic laughter among the liberals in my readership—particularly, and embarrassingly, the Canadians—but so be it.
Some people get it, and some people don’t. President Bush gets it.
Iraqis get it. Terrorists don’t. Liberals don’t.
People who understand that peace can only be achieved through the spreading of freedom and democracy around the world and an end to tyranny, get it. Liberals who only understand the politics of fear and pessimism and power for its own sake don’t.
People who don’t share a culture of life and a strong sense of faith very often simply don’t get it. Those who spend their time and even careers tearing down institutions and tearing apart values long held dear by Canadians and Americans alike, don’t get it and refuse to get it.
Those whose agenda is to re-engineer society by government decree and manipulation through judicial and unfree political means do not get it.
People who rely on a steady supply of victims and build their lives around the promotion of a culture of victimhood must not get it lest they render themselves useless. People who fight for independence and personal responsibility and for a culture of self-earned personal and family prosperity get it in spades.
That’s why the feigned laughter and howls of indignation among liberals will reach a fevered pitch tonight on discussion boards and blogs, and conservatives will rest easy tonight knowing things are on-track, moving in the right direction, and are in extremely capable hands—their own, mostly, and in a leader who like them, gets it.
