I’ve been ranting about conservatives getting off their Monday morning quarterback armchair and actually walking the walk, and doing something. Some of the readers and participants here have been doing just that. Marc, for example. Marc sent me his latest effort demonstrating for anyone willing to learn a thing or two about winning support for the conservative cause that one should never let the liberals get away with the ridiculous and wrong things they say incessantly over and over.
Liberals constantly speak as though everyone in the room completely agrees with them. Conservatives consistently react, perhaps understandably—but wrongly, as if they will be horse-whipped if they dare speak back. But laugh at them. Speak back. I think you’d be surprised at the positive feedback you’ll generate.
First here’s the letter he read in his local paper, then his reply.
Editor:
I take exception to the article in your Apr. 22 edition, by Michael Jiggins and accredited to Joe Preston. How anyone could draw a parallel between what is happening in Canada now and what happened in the U.S.A. in 1974 is beyond my comprehension.
Let’s examine a few of the differences. Richard Nixon was a conservative, Paul Martin is a Liberal. Richard Nixon was impeached for trying to coverup a break-in at the Democratic centre. Paul Martin is in trouble because people are having a problem believing he didn’t know about the misuse of tax payers’ money. When Richard Nixon was impeached it didn’t cause the conservative government to fall plunging the country into a costly election. No, they simply replaced one crook with another and filled out the term with President Gerald Ford.
Now let’s get this straight Joe. Because Paul Martin wasn’t observant enough to realize the fact that $200 million was being given to his friends in old Quebec, we should punish him. We do this by throwing away another $270 million on an election.
The only reason for an election now is that Conservatives think they can win and rightly replace the Liberals at the public trough in Ottawa. This doesn’t sound to me like we are punishing the prime minister, unless I’m missing something. He doesn’t pay for the election, Joe. We do—the Canadian taxpayer. It’s us you are punishing.
No, Joe, I don’t buy your argument and furthermore anyone that forces a costly and unnecessary election on Canada, simply to satisfy their ego won’t get my vote.

Liberals have eclipsed other political scandals
Thursday May 05, 2005
Editor,
I agree with Gary Lazenby that Richard Nixon and Paul Martin are incomparable. There are many similarities but comparing them is futile given how this Liberal Party has eclipsed any democratic government for scandal. Paul Martin is far too arrogant and desperate for power to resign as Nixon did. Nixon was never impeached either; he resigned before that happened. However, impeaching Martin wouldn’t be enough. An election is the only way to properly disinfect Canadian politics.
Unlike Nixon, Paul Martin is far more brazen. It’s either lunacy or brilliance to conduct an investigation in broad daylight while hoodwinking Canadians into keeping him in power by selling himself as an innocent bystander. People like Mr. Lazenby are proof that it’s working to some extent. Paul Martin is in trouble because his government was caught funneling millions to Liberal friendly firms; not because “he didn’t know about the misuse of taxpayer’s money.”
Claiming Martin knows nothing only proves he is even more unfit to govern. He is either involved or incompetent. There are numerous reasons why this Liberal government needs to go. Dangerous social experimentation, tremendous waste, democratic deficit and spending billions on more socialist programs with money they’ve squirreled away by overtaxing us in the first place are good enough reasons for me. The threat of the cost of an election is yet another desperate attempt to retain power. While it may be a costly proposition, we need to get rid of this Liberal government before the millions turn into billions like the gun registry did.
I view Mr. Lazenby’s previous letters as prima facia evidence that, because he has negative views towards the productive term Mayor Jeff Kohler is having, he is inclined towards counterproductive governance and will vote Liberal, accordingly.
