Yesterday I blogged that the CTV.CA web site mendaciously left out information in a story, and mislead Canadians into buying Prime Minister Paul Martin’s deceitful nonsense in the House. They helped Martin imply that Conservative Party leader Stephen Harper was engaged in “political gamesmanship”. That was complete nonsense, as I proved beyond a shadow of doubt in my blog entry by simply exposing what was REALLY said. It was Martin, our Prime Minister, who was playing games—political gamesmanship over the tragic deaths of heroic RCMP officers— and lying to all sorts of people not the least of which were all Canadians. And the CTV.CA news staff helped him—even if unwittingly.
Today, we find that Martin admits to his slimy deception and apologized. (Hat tip: Ross M.)
This according to a Sun Media story by Stephanie Rubec:
Prime Minister Paul Martin apologized to the father of a slain Mountie for claiming to have had “long discussions” with him about getting tough on criminals.
Martin called Rev. Don Schiemann yesterday after being roasted in the House by the Conservatives for offending the families of four RCMP officers killed last March in Mayerthorpe, Alta., during question period Monday with his claims of the lengthy talks.
[…] Schiemann said he and the families of the other three Mounties took offence to Martin’s claims they had in-depth discussions about their calls for a national drug strategy and mandatory minimum sentences for gun-related crimes and authorized the Conservative Party to take the PM to task over it.
Please note that the CTV.CA has made no clarification, nor an apology to Canadians for their deceitful story; nor published a retraction on their web site; nor has Martin apologized in the house as yet, nor to Canadians. Nor has Stephen Harper gotten any form of apology from anybody.
