UPDATED WITH VIDEO—see below
President Bush will be thrilled to know he won the ProudToBeCanadian Quote of the Week Award today. He’ll probably mount it at the White House. Yup. He’ll probably come to my house ‘n get it from me.
His quote was with regard to the report, released today, on the progress Iraqis have made in Iraq, which, shockingly, wasn’t 100% perfect, meaning to Democrats and al-Qaeda that America should surrender to al-Qaeda immediately and then wait for terrorist attacks to wreck America. Dion, Layton and Harper too, I think, are all on board that Titanic-style ship.
“ When we start drawing down our forces in Iraq, it will (be) because our military commanders say the conditions on the ground are right, not because pollsters say it’ll be good politics. ”
And Canadians, that speaks to what you call “principle”. That’s apparently an “old world” word used in Canada and American long ago but it’s not “modern” any more and has nothing to do with being gay or with man-made global warming, so it’s not used much if at all. I’d like to see it return to common usage.
UPDATE:
After I wrote this piece in which I praised Bush’s use of the rarefied virtue called “principle”, I tuned into the one and only Fox News Channel and found President Bush giving a news conference, and this clip seemed to give me hope that he’d come to my house and accept his PTBC Quote of the Day Award. I think he might have read my blog. Yup.
