The Liberal Party’s Natural Resources Minister John Efford said today that despite the notion tossed around yesterday that he might actually break with the Liberals and vote with his conscience against gay ‘marriage’, he has decided to toss values and principles out the window—like a typical liberal—and simply vote with the rest of the Liberals—as per orders from above (“above” in the case of liberals means the leader of the Liberal Party).
I think it’s ironic that he’s the natural resources minister. Maybe he ought to brush-up on a few definition of terms—as in the natural resources inherent in a man and woman marrying and creating families.
Efford to toe the line on gay marriage, reducing threat of cabinet revolt
OTTAWA (CP) – A federal cabinet minister grappling with the question of same-sex marriage will inform church leaders next week that he will support gay and lesbian weddings, a source says.
After signalling [sic] he might risk his job by breaking ranks with the Liberal government, Natural Resources Minister John Efford has apparently decided to toe the line. He was set to announce his decision after meeting with church officials next week in Newfoundland, but his mind will already be made up when he enters the meeting.
“He is going to vote with the government and that’s the message he will take to the religious leaders,” a senior government source said Wednesday.
“He wanted to tell them face-to-face.”
