Threat of physical violence from Liberal insider alleged

Damning testimony and more revelations about the tolerant and compassionate liberals in our midst.  In my position and considering what I say/write and what I do, I’m not sure if me and my family should be more afraid of the tax department, or of liberals in general.

Stephanie Rubec of the Sun Media Group’s Ottawa Bureau reports it through the Edmonton Sun, but having watched it myself on CPAC, I can tell you the testimony was even more disturbing live.  Once again, I found myself shaking my head trying to remind myself that this is Canada. And this is our government. And that people are prepared to vote for this government and these people in an election.

MONTREAL—A former top Grit told the Adscam inquiry yesterday his physical safety was threatened when he tried to wrest control of the Liberal party’s Quebec bank accounts from former public works minister Alfonso Gagliano.

Daniel Dezainde said when he sought fundraising help from Jacques Corriveau, bagman to former PM Jean Chretien, his longtime friend said he’d done his part for the Liberals by creating a kickback scheme with ad agencies.

Dezainde, who was hired to head the Liberal party’s Quebec wing in May 2001, broke down as he described his attempts to gain control of the party’s finances from Gagliano’s right-hand man Joseph Morselli and organizer Beryl Wasjman.

Dezainde said he took action in June 2001, firing Wasjman for organizing unsanctioned fundraisers and peddling his influence to party donors, provoking an angry outburst by Morselli in the Liberals’ Montreal office.

“He approached me and pointed his finger at me two inches from my nose and said from this time forward this is war,” Dezainde told Justice John Gomery.

“I thought that went a bit too far, because I felt that my security was directly threatened.”

And Dezainde said Morselli warned him that a friend’s ad firm would lose their federal contracts if Wasjman wasn’t put back on the payroll.

Dezainde said he called his relatives and close friends to warn them about Morselli’s outburst in case something happened to him.

Dezainde said he also called Gagliano, but the cabinet minister dismissed the incident.

“You took it as a threat of physical violence?” asked Gomery.

“Yes,” Dezainde answered, his voice breaking.
