The Paul Martin approved Liberal Party advertisements has served both to antagonize the United States and attempt to paint Steven Harper as some kind of George Bush clone. The underlying statement Paul Martin wishes to make is that anything that the President of the United States may like should be abhorrent to Canadians and the Liberal Party. To Paul Martin and his Liberal Party a Canada which George Bush would loathe is the best choice for Canadians.
Paul Martin’s target audience is all those narrow minded, bigoted, xenophobic Canadians who love hating Americans. These Canadians hate the good for being the good. Our educational intuitions are fast becoming breeding grounds for this kind of anti-Americanism. From my own experience, complaints regarding death threats made against George Bush at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology were oftentimes dismissed or complainants themselves harassed by the faculty and students. This ploy seems to have worked for Martin as these advertisements have somewhat shrunk the Conservative lead over the Liberals. This is fairly good testimony regarding the extent of the bigotry and xenophobia of some base Canadians in our midst.
Martin’s opening volley during the election was directed against the United States and George Bush. For a time it even looked like our Martin was running against George Bush for Prime Minister of Canada. His anti-American chest thumping directed at George Bush at the Earth Summit was a typical Martin ploy at hypocrisy. He condemned George Bush for not signing on to the Kyoto Accord, very conveniently forgetting that Canada’s atmospheric pollution rate has grown 24% compared with the United States at 19%. As usual Martin sounded great to many idiotic Canadians by standing up against the United States. Too bad for our Canadian morons all that Martin demagoguery was erected on just another big Liberal anti-American lie.
Antagonizing and irritating the United States is about the only foreign policy initiative the Paul Martin’s Liberals could muster. Indeed that is about the extent of the current Canadian foreign policy of our Liberal rÃ
