Obama promised no tax increases; Cap and Trade bill promises massive tax increases; Media silent.

Barack Obama campaigned on a promise of no taxes increases — of any kind — if he were elected President, provided you and your family earn less than $250,000 per year.  He said it a thousand times.

But the Cap and Trade bill he and liberal Democrats pushed through the House on Friday (without reading it) and are now pushing through the Senate will most definitely raise taxes by a huge amount.  Estimates range from many hundreds to several thousands for the average American.  Plus the costs downloaded by businesses they buy from.

Liberals largely lie about the true cost in terms of increased taxes and especially other price increases.  For example businesses, which will all be soaked by the new taxes, will pass the increases onto consumers of course.  Even the Congressional Budget Office says companies would probably pass on most of those costs to customers — in particular, American households — in the form of higher prices.  In fact even Obama let slip that electricity prices “would skyrocket” with a Cap and Trade system.  And he said it like it was a good thing.  That was in January 2008 —possibly before he realized how every word he says is recorded.

And they always forget to tell you that it’s also about growing governments, and controlling your lives, and social engineering, and redistributing incomes.

imageMeanwhile, I like how the article in the liberals’ Vancouver Sun — a paper in a city in a province where its Liberal government recently introduced ridiculous new carbon taxes that all consumers pay, for all manner of energy —  shows that the Liberals “promise” to increase taxes every year.  By a whopping 50%.  During a massive recession.

Note that this article is in the “Business” section of the Vancouver Sun.

Only liberals could see tax increases (at any time) as something you “promise” to do.  Most in the sensible, non-KoolAid-drinking, freedom-loving free-market capitalist set, see tax reductions as the thing you “promise” to do, and tax increases as something you campaign against.

Carbon tax to rise by 50 per cent

British Columbia’s carbon tax will increase by 50 per cent on Wednesday, marking a full year since the measure was introduced, and delivering on a promise to increase the tax each July 1 until 2012.

The carbon tax is expected to collect $546 million this fiscal year, and $2.27 billion over the next three years combined.

EPA Did Not Release Internal Report That Dissented from Conclusion That Carbon Emissions Cause Global Warming

Tuesday, June 30, 2009
By Christopher Neefus

(CNSNews.com) – The EPA did not publicly release a March report that raised questions about the validity of the agency’s conclusions that carbon emissions are a cause of global warming and a danger to human health—primary assumptions behind the cap-and-trade bill that passed the House on Friday.

Critics—including eight congressmen—say the document was suppressed in spite of an Obama administration pledge to bring greater transparency to government.

[…]

The Competitive Enterprise Institute obtained and released a draft of the dissenting document last week, along with internal correspondence CEI says proves the report “was kept under wraps and its author silenced because of pressure to support the Administration’s agenda of regulating carbon dioxide.” …
