No wonder they didn’t interview Layton and Ignatieff for their always ever so important views

Hat tip to Greg H for sending me this CTV.ca poll (CTV has replaced it with a new one already):

Should Canada require visas of visitors from other countries, in addition to Mexico and Czech Republic?
Yes — 7692 votes (83 %)
No — 1579 votes (17 %)

Total Votes:9271

imageMeanwhile, CTV reports in its hysterical news reporting (using words like “chaos” and “shockwave” and “anger” and “burden” and “harsh criticism” in their various news video from across Canada) —purely from the perspective of Mexicans who are now slightly inconvenienced (slight inconvenience for foreigners is now apparently a gross violation of human rights, or of the apparently vital “Canadian Value” of appeasement of all foreigners and their very tender feelings no matter what, or something).  The other perspective they offer is from the perspective of Mexican-Canadian tourist company operators in Toronto who think their profits and personal financial interests should trump Canada’s and all Canadian taxpayers and our national security.

At home and abroad, a lot of people are angry at the Canadian government for its sudden change of rules for visitors from two countries.”

If the hideously liberal Canadian news media was so on top of things and doing their jobs, they’d have already known about this massive influx of bogus refugees from the Czech republic and Mexico, and would have been covering it.  But apparently they had no clue.  This all comes as a shock only to them.  They have been too busy doing the important work of gratuitously slamming Sarah Palin, and uncovering secret hidden agendas of the Harper administration.

A sudden requirement by the Federal government for visitors from Mexico and the Czech Republic to get travel visas before coming here is causing chaos tonight. Would be travelers to Canada are scrambling as they try to get the documents on short notice.

…and the surprise visa requirement has sent shockwaves through BC’s tourism and language school industries, both of which rely heavily on visitors from Mexico.

CTV News isn’t reporting the news —they’re shaping the news; filtering it; trying to get you to see it through their prism; hoping you take it the way they see it.

imageBut more troubling for me:  their reflexive, knee-jerk, hysterical, alarmist reaction seems to be to (1) immediately “blame Canada”; and (2) cast a wary eye on Canada and its government and its decision to do this when clearly there’s no upside politically for Canada or its government —in fact quite the contrary, it’s a rather brave and bold move that governments of any flavor other than Conservative would likely be too effete to try; and (3) try to drum up a sympathetic reaction by Canadians toward Mexicans and their so sad feelings by, for example, interviewing forlorn-looking Mexican after “shocked” and “outraged” Mexican, even when a sympathetic response is not only unwarranted, one really doesn’t exist, and any sympathy should in any case play a distant second to our own Canadian taxpayer and national security interests; and (4) maybe if there’s time, they sort of pretend to point out why Canada is doing this, and barely cover that angle.  They completely avoid the elephant in the room, which is the news angle of this all being because of idiotic, lax, Liberal Party vote-getting immigration and “refugee” and associated welfare and appeasement policies established by decades of their liberal-left progressive rule, and as a result, Canada being seen as a doormat by people all over the world, including now even people from healthy, largely untroubled countries.

I’m not sure whose side CTV is on.  Personally, I’m on Canada’s side.
