“News” article? Or another liberal media fundraising plug for the Liberal Party?

Once again, this story isn’t even remotely news, but yet the CTV calls it, and I quote, a “Top Story”.  Yup:  “Dion promises to meet and listen this summer”.  Well I hope they have a crack team of reporters assigned to the story.

I smirked over the article at the liberals’ CTV division about the Liberal Party “campaign classes” currently in session (I ope they hawerks many good!).  But it then struck me how the CTV article’s author (a chap named “CTV.ca News Staff”) seemed to write about it in an effort to attract Liberal Party fund-raising.  See, they quickly turned a totally useless non story (sorry—a “Top Story”!) about their “election classes” and BBQing plans into a rumination about the dismal fortunes of their poor Liberal Party.  It seems the Liberals can’t raise cash now that the law has changed and it forbids them from cashing in on the corporate welfare recipients they’ve nurtured along lo these many years.

It’s a “TOP STORY”, dammit!

I went to the Elections Canada web site to re-examine the latest quarterly results of the political parties:

The Conservatives raised nearly 10 times the amount raised by the Liberals.  $5,176,736.30 just in the first quarter of this year.

The Liberals raised only 588,841.09.

Even the you’ve got to be kidding party raised more than the Liberals.

And to show the grassroots strength of the Conservatives in Canada:

The Conservatives also had more then ten times the number of contributors (proving it isn’t just a bunch of rich folks doling out the cash, which is illegal now in any case), at 45,192 contributors.

The Liberals only attracted 4,365 contributors, plus a bunch of cash from “associations” and candidates.  Again, the you’ve got to be kidding party did way better.

I suspect the latest quarter ending this month will be somewhat different however, as promotions such as CTV’s kick in.
