The state-owned, state-run media demanded a raise—an increase of taxpayer funding—of 25% this past week, ostensibly for doing such a great job, presenting such fabulous TV shows, and for being so damn useful to Canadians.
Ba-ding bam boom! It’s a comedy! Alas it’s a comedy based on reality. So it’s a very, very dark comedy.
Actual words by the President of the CBC (who was appointed by the Harper “Conservative” administration, proving to my adversaries that the state-owned media is actually state-run, too) as reported at CNews:
“We are currently condemned to rely on advertising revenue to balance out our budgets. Consequently, we have no choice but to keep a close eye on ratings,” he said. “Pretending otherwise would not accurately reflect our daily reality.”
Advertising you say! Ratings! Why that’s almost like capitalism! Free markets! Yikes! And that ain’t right… if you’re a communist being “condemned” to live in what is supposed to be a free market capitalist Canada.
In an “ideal world,” Lacroix said the CBC could free itself from its dependency on advertisers. The current setup, however, does not allow for that, he said.
To the folks at the socialist-reliant CBC, an “ideal world” is apparently a new global socialist order. A communist Canada. That’d be ideal. Go team.
Naturally the CBC and its President, who apparently yearns for a more “ideal” world resembling a communist Canada or at least a Canada with a state-owned, state-run, fully taxpayer-funded communist-style media, earned nothing more than PTBC’s Unwittingly Comedic Quote of the Week Award.
Spin-off:
Given the corporate background of the CBC President, Mr. Hubert T. Lacroix, I can’t imagine him as anything but a capitalist. But it does seem he has drunk the CBC Kool Aid. For that matter, maybe all the Conservatives have, too.

State-owned and state-run media should be banned in this country, and that should be enshrined in our constitution. Thank you.
