Just now:
The liberals’ CTV Newsnet division reports “news” about the day’s goings on, which includes some pretty sharp opinions from their reporters. Read that last bit again if you didn’t pick up on what’s wrong with this picture.
The story is about the hysteria over the confusion surrounding our agreement with Afghanistan and prisoners. The “news” anchor passes it to Robert Fife—CTV’s Ottawa Bureau Chief—“for more on this”.
And he informs us:
“The big question here in Ottawa is how long can Gordon O’Connor the defense minister last? I mean he is incompetent. He has not been able to do this job very well. And he is the sort of the walking dead in this town… and everybody knows that… “
Apart from the newsman’s official job assessment, I particularly like the “and everybody knows that” part—it reminds me of the “consensus of scientific opinion” BS regarding the man-made global warming religion.
But “for more on this” minister of defence “fact”, you could refer to any of the latest Liberal Party or you’ve got to be kidding party’s talking points. They read exactly the same.
I mean it’s not as if they set it up as Robert Fife as taking some time out from reporting to pontificate about the day’s news, or “analyze” the day’s news, or anything like that. He’s introduced as CTV’s Robert Fife, “for more on this” —and we know him as a reporter—the Ottawa Bureau Chief in fact—not an opinionator.
But that doesn’t matter to them.
(The question of whether or not he’s got it right on O’Connor is not in question.)
