Liberal-left cabal pass yet another grand symbolic gesture: flying flag at half mast

The Canadian troops fighting in Afghanistan and in other wars in our history do and did so for that very flag and what it stands for and its ability to fly, against all odds, and in spite of all setbacks, and in spite the terrorist threat (which seeks just exactly this sort of asinine response)—proudly, high atop that flag pole.  Not so that it can symbolically cower and lament the very effort itself at the whim and personal feelings of a few liberals.

“Peace Tower flag-lowering motion passes”

—headline at state-owned CBC.ca

They must be giddy with excitement. It’s another dumb symbolic gesture catapulting passion over reason (contra Trudeau’s own liberal-sacred mantra!).  “Feelings” over substance.    Mind over matter.  Wearing their personal bleeding hearts on the very most public sleeve.  Constantly apologizing for everything, liberals are all about their sensitive side and their “feelings”.  They “feel” everything more than the rest of us.  (And of course if it feels good, well, by Jim, do it!).

But here’s what this flag-flying flap is all about:  It’s about some liberals and their disgraceful politics, and some of them using our soldiers fighting and dying in Afghanistan as a crass political tool.  And using our parliament buildings and its Peace Tower and our very flag similarly.

One of the few and disgraceful tools available to liberals in their continuing effort to discredit our nation and cause Canadians to question their own resolve in this war, and the resolve of the nation itself, and to call into question the very mission—the noble mission in Afghanistan—is to put on their lab coats and analyze everything to death, feigning concern, and acting like altruistic bean-counters, adding-up the costs and worst of all, continually counting the dead soldiers and announcing that tally at every opportunity for tendentious reasons.  And then using it all as what they think is a reason to claim it’s all a worthless slaughter.  They died in vain.  Bring the troops home.   Thus you see the latest death tally printed in most every one of the stories in the liberals’ media about Afghanistan, whether it’s germane to the particular story or not.

Like many Canadian traditions that have been redefined, liberals have attempted to bastardize the tradition—and the meaning of—lowering the Canadian flag.  It’s now used by liberals for political gain and political correctness.

I think the liberals care about the troops as a general matter about as much as they care about winning the war.

A federal panel of experts and both the Royal Canadian Legion and the National Council of Veteran Associations are opposed to this, the latest of the liberals’ grand symbolic gestures which are designed to replace actual action and actual troop support.

Thankfully, the Conservative government plans to ignore the vote.

EXTRA:
Good National Post editorial on this topic today which is in total agreement with my take.
